Have I Taken My Longhorn Obsession too Far?

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to post some photos of the 1966 Karmann Ghia that I've been restoring for what seems like the last 17 years. I'd say it's about 90% of the way there. I still have some final interior touches (new handles, a new steering wheel) and then, of course, the Longhorn flags, the burnt-orange fuzzy dice etc... Also, a friend is working on some "refrigerator magnet" type BIG Longhorn silhouettes that I will be able to put on the hood and the trunk and maybe the sides and then peel off at will.

I realize that it may not be displaying as pure burnt orange but, trust me, it is. It's just really hard to get it exactly right because my image host, Pbase, runs some kind of funky software has a tendency to mute colors, especially reds, oranges, and yellows.

I ask you: WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? HAVE I COMPLETELY LOST MY MIND?

great car. good job on the restoration.

(but poor job on disguising a bragging thread as a "problem" thread -- hahaha)

Actually, I don't think you've gone far enough with keeping the black or grey itnerior. shouldn't it be BO & white also? JK, I think Mel would be proud, right accuratehorn?

according to the blue blur on your license plates, you love your pets.

Is that the auto version of a road-white jersey with orange pants proposal? Well, at least you kept the black shoes.

Seriously, nice ride. Will you add the finished product to your pics of Texas when its done?

it looks really sweet. Just make sure you keep several burnt orange shirts in the trunk, so the guys that push it will match.

Great style. Just the worst car imaginable.

Hey now, Big Will .... I'll have you know that it has the uber powerful 1300 cc, 71 HP, air cooled standard VW Beetle motor in it.

It's not only been a pretty reliable driver, but it gets a little more than 30 mph.

RJQ.

Considered making the interior white and maybe some time in the future I'll do it but it would have to be a custom job (because, of course, we'd want to get Longhorn logos sewn into them) and that would be really expensive.

A convertible Ghia is something I will own one day along with a few other ones. Great car but you have lost your mind if you park that thing on the street for anything other than show off pictures.

Can you somehow put a cape on the back? An orange cape, of course.

"because, of course, we'd want to get Longhorn logos sewn into them"

I was going to say you wouldn't have taken it too far unless you had the interior white with longhorn logo custom stiched. Glad to see I was thinking the same way.

Now I believe the only way you could take it too far is if you had an airbrushed image of VY on the trunk like the Virgin Mary scenes you see on some pickups here in Texas.

I love that ride.

I wouldn't trick it up much more. I think a simple Longhorn sticker on the back window or a Texas Ex sticker, plus the burnt orange fuzzy dice, will suffice. I don't think you need the big Fathead logos on the sides of the car.

I clicked on this thread expecting to see either some piece of crap or a tasteless joke.

That car is a thing of beauty; a work of art.

Very, very nice.

Really nice job! You did paint the sheet metal on the engine in matching burnt orange and white didn't you?
Some people are known to get a little carried away on such projects. No one I know, of course.

Wow, did you really spend 17 years? This is absolutely greatness. I wouldn't change the steering wheel. The idea of orange and white seats is a great idea.

Any pics of what you started with? I'm inspired.
