Has a big player ever gone down in a bowl?

Know someone who was involved in that game that has dealt with CFB for 25+ years and the McGahee injury happened right in front of him....worst injury he has ever seen in person....

it was definitely PI. I thought it was correct when I saw it.

And yes, "defenders do that all of the time". But when they do it in the end zone, because they're isolated and beat, it gets called. In that situation, you are supposed to interfere. You don't give up a TD.

I get very annoyed when I hear announcers saying things like: "you have to let the players play" in situations like that. The rules are the rules.

Actually, there was an even worse example of defensive pass interference earlier in the drive that wasn't called.

i don't think people would ***** about that call if they had just made it immediately. just looked really ****** to be all WOW MIAMI WINS THEY ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. Great game everybody, tune in after the break as the Hurricanes will be awarded the BCS trophy for their undefeated 2002 . . .wait, there's a flag on the play!

Maybe the announcers didn't see the flag right away during that game, but it was a penalty that should been called and was called.

"you dont make a interference call to decide a championship when the db has a hand on the back of a receiver, that happens every play."

Oh, so by that logic the PI against Ohio State in the end zone in the 2nd OT shouldn't have been called? The fact is that Ohio State and Miami both got the ball on the 2-yd line with a first down. Ohio State scored. Miami couldn't.

As for "the call" just watch the ABC broadcast tape. The replay shows the ref making two calls: holding (at the line of scrimmage) and then PI (in the end zone). That means that even if the PI had not been called, the defensive holding would have been. Automatic 1st down in either case.

The bad call that is never mentioned is the catch Gamble made at the sideline that was ruled "no catch." Replays show it was clearly caught in bounds. Instead of sustaining the drive, Ohio State had to punt, Miami gets the big runback (thanx to a block in the back that was not called on Miami), they kick a FG and the game goes into OT.

No one talks about the really bad calls that went against Ohio State but, that's OK. Makes the NC even sweeter.

I saw the thread and thought of Marco Martin in the 5A Championship game. Not a bowl, but a big name player. That was a CHEAP shot.

Major went down with a knee in the 2000 Cotton. I cannot recall the extent of the injury however (ACL/MCL etc). That play basically ushered in the Simms era as well didn't it?
