Has a big player ever gone down in a bowl?

Career threatening or even ending?

Just curious

Consider that if McGahee had not gone down Miami would have been able to run the clock late in the game and Ohio State would not have been able to pull off its miracle finish.

The national championship would have been won by Miami.

Now consider that the more games you play, the more likely something like that is to happen and you see why some of us don't think much of a playoff. The team that wins is the team with the least serious injuries.

And, no, I don't expect much of anyone to agree with me.

i had to slowly scroll through this thread to make sure no ******* posted pics of willis' injury.

He wasn't a huge name, and didn't track to have a "bigtime" pro-career, but Hodges Mitchell did have an opportunity to get drafted, get paid, and have some form of pro career before his injury in the holiday bowl 5 or 6 years ago...

I would argue that leinart/bush haven't been the same since being demoralized by VY and co. Hell without their bonehead turnovers they may have had the 3-peat.

I think not.

From SI: "McGahee, like Dorsey, a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, carried 20 times for 76 yards before injuring his left knee midway through the fourth quarter after he was hit by Will Smith."

Actually he was hit by S Will Allen. McGahee had a 9-yd TD but other than that, it was Winslow who was doing the real damage and he was in at the end. Dorsey had been blasted too. Fact is Miami had a 1st and goal at the 2-yd line and didn't have the goods.

And yes, OSU was called for PI in the end zone. Everyone seems to forget that

Not a bowl game like you meant but Robert Smith shredded his knee at a touch football game at the Pro Bowl. He almost died in the ambulance to the hospital. Ended his pro career and they haven't had the touch football game on the beach anymore.

you dont make a interference call to decide a championship when the db has a hand on the back of a receiver, that happens every play.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but that's a still image. In real life the players move, and he did more than just put his hand on Gamble's back. Seriously, all you have to do is look at the first picture. Gamble's upper body is at an angle away from the direction of his lower body. Sharpe clearly was impeding Gamble's progress while the ball was in the air.

And for the record, your "to decide a championship" logic is the worst logic used by fans in any sports argument. The rules are the rules. There is not an exception to the rules for the closing moments of championship games. Pass interference with one team up by 35 points in the second quarter is pass interference if it's overtime in the national championship game. The rule doesn't change.
