harmon to play for Russia in Olympics

Becky Hammon of the WNBA's San Antonio stars has a dream to play in the Olympics. She states that she will never be able to make the U.S. olympic team and so has agreed to play for Russia in the Olympics. Many people are upset about her decision.

What a tacky decision on her part. Part of her contract with the Russian team that she is playing for is the chance to play on the Russian Olympic team.

To me the Olympics are about representing your country. She has every opportunity to compete against the best players in the world already so she cannot use that as a factor. If I were a friend or family member I think I would be embarrassed by her actions. Something tells me that she will change her mind. This decision will forever haunt her in the U.S. and I am guessing that she has lost the respect of much of the U.S. basketball community.
The Link

1. After the olympics, does she revert back to US citizenship? Or does she continue to hold dual citizenship (assume that's what she has now).

2. If she takes the shot at the buzzer (see last paragraph in the ESPN story) and makes it, to beat the US, she's going to get a rough reception here. If she misses it, she gets a rough (possibly rougher) reception there. Better for her not to find herself in that situation.

3. It says something about the character (and priorities) of a country that offers citizenship so quickly to somebody just to enhance their chances in sport. I mean...she's no different than a mercenary.

4. She'd better play the game(s) of her life because eery russian woman who felt she should be on the team is going to second-guess their decision to include Harmon. The media are going to go batshit, particularly if she comes down to (one of) the situation in 2 above.

Does not sit well with me at all and I love Becky Hammon. To me, the Olympics are all about representing your country plain and simple. That IS the dream.
