Hannah Update 2/18/04

My family will pray for yours and especially for your little girl. Sometimes I want things, but don't realize how much those desires pail to wanting children to be safe and healthy.

Father,

Please continue to heal Hannah and hold her close, give your strength to her and her family, wisdom to those doctors and nurses who work with her, and your grace and peace to all involved.

Amen.

Craig,

It's amazing what docs can do these days with vascular surgery. My mom had a quintuple coronary bypass back in 1991, and they said it might last her ten years before she had to come back for another one. Well here it is 13 years later, and every year she goes in for a stress test on her heart, and her scores keep getting better (not worse). God can do awesome things, so keep expecting that miracle, and you never know where it will come from.

Above all remember that God loves you and He loves Hannah very much. Hannah and your family will be in our prayers.

Our God is an awesome and faithful God! As MarcP's e-mail showed, many times we see miracles of healing and we have affirmation that He is omnipresent and he hears our prayers.

We are continuing to pray.

DAY 10

We got some news last night that made us a little nervous. They did the angiogram to take a look at Hannah's kidneys. The pictures showed that there was stenosis present in one of her arteries and an aneurism (ballooning of the arterial walls) behind the stenosis making angioplasty a very risky option. Unfortunately, that was the GOOD side. The other renal artery is completely occluded to the point that any blood reaching that kidney is getting there by secondary pathways (what they call collateral blood flow).

The fact that her blood pressure is getting harder to control through her IV medications and the fact that they do not want to burst her arterial walls by doing angioplasty means that they will now have to perform vascular sugery on her. They will do a bypass operation that will actually entail the removal of one of her kidneys. This kidney is showing some shrinkage and the doctors suspect that there is a lot of scar tissue there that has reduced it's function. This is something they would have done anyway - but these factors have made them push the timetable up. They are going to get together with her whole team to decide when will be the best time to do this, but it could be done as early as tomorrow if the neurologist gives her clearance. Obviously, the hemmorage at her brainstem makes surgery a tricky option at best.

On the plus side, Hannah has showed the most eye movement to date and is moving her tongue a little bit when we brush her teeth or have to do anything around her mouth. It's just a few wiggles from side to side every now and then, but it's the most movement we've seen so far. She is definitely responding to our voices when she is "awake".

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers, especially with her impending surgery. Thank you again so much for your continued support of her and her family.

God Bless You All,

-Craig
