Rex, your darkness is a little disturbing. You think you can put together a roster of 25 with nothing but Ken Dolls and have them hit .325 and hit 40 HR's and 100 RBI?? He has also acknowledged that his marriage is falling apart.
Huh? You're reading comprehension is terrible. I don't want my team comprised of whatever the hell makes up a Ken doll. I am tired of hamilton's antics. Every time he makes some self-perceived personal mistake he cries to the press about it.
Furthermore, he never acknowledged his marriage was falling apart. Not that I saw anyway. In fact he refuted that notion in yesterday's newspaper, where he claimed the problem is dip. Dip! I am a Christian, and though I cannot confirm, but I highly doubt God gives a **** about dipping. If he does I'll probably be in hell. That's not the point. My point is, Josh cannot not be a drama queen. It affected him in Cincy. It'll affect him here when we don't resign him, or lowball him, as we should.
1- Bascik on 105.3 after Fri nites game went a lil deeper into the Josh thing. He said the Rangers FO looks at JH now as a total neurotic. This dip thing is just one of a long line of what they think is just him being paranoid, neurotic, or just plain nutty.
2- He blew up on both our base coaches tonite, in separate instances. Not good. He's losing control. His exchange with Pettis is linked, scroll down the page to view
I'm growing tired of Josh's act, too, and I'm a person who shares his spiritual beliefs and cuts him slack for battling his addiction demons. However, IMO, y'all are over-blowing or overreacting to last night's baserunning isses. The incident at 1B with Pettis did look a little bit chippy, but I wouldn't fairly call it "blowing up."
Moreover, the incident at 3B was clearly Anderson's fault, and not Josh's. Josh was running to 3B and had his back to the play. Unlike Beltre, who had a clear and immediate view of the ball getting away from the KC SS, Josh had his back to the play and therefore had to rely on Anderson to wave him home. Anderson dropped the ball:
I wasn't on Josh b/c of his base running. It's his blowing up a coach on the field.
As we get older we realize that people who explode like that are either having issues away from the job and don't have the maturity to handle the situation, or.....if they do it on a continual basis then the problem is the individual himself
Bascik's point was, "it's always something with Josh" in the eyes of the FO..... His eyes are blue, thus he can't see the ball in the daytime....Anderson sends him last yr to take home on a foul out, and Josh hurts himself on a bad slide, then blames the coach for it.....the off field incidents, followed by the dog and pony show pressers that don't reflect well on him or the franchise
Now this episode.
I don't think Josh is a bad guy, and I root for him in a Ranger uni.....but the actions he puts out there does have an effect on other individuals on the team. Both players and FO personnel...he needs to grow up
I agree with others, this drama queen stuff is way too much to put up with for a $100 million dollar man.
Let him go. He's proven his consistency lies in his ability to be inconsistent.
I'm sure Jon Daniels has several players on his radar for the offseason.
I just thought of the craziest thing, though. Remember how Josh had effectively "won" the world series with his HR in the top of the whatever inning last year?
If the Rangers had won the game, and WS, would the public pressure to sign Josh to a long-term deal have been so great, that the Rangers would have repeated the Tom Hicks-Arod deal, and given Josh 10 years-250 million?
interesting, I can see how that could have easily happened.
The more we read & hear on JD's opinion of Josh, and others in the FO as well, I don't think they wanted Josh back at any price unless they have rigid financial guarantees against him melting down or stiff fines for public relapses .
They know they can't replace his bat / production, nor his defense. But one of these days one of his meltdowns is going to be destructive to a ballclub.
Remember, the Reds traded Josh b/c the young players there couldn't stand to be around him.....YOUNG players, not veterans. Kids that said "this guy is a cancer, get rid of him.
That's what the next team he plays for has to deal with. If they don't have a MY in the clubhouse to neutralize his drama shiite, and the FO doesn't put out fires every other week, and they don't provide this 32yo with a babysitter. they're screwed.
H2 - yeah, i think we can safely say JH is back and we sure need it with Nap out and other bats kind of quiet.
As for Gentry - I too want him playing - I want him batting, getting hits, getting walks, getting on base, stealing bases and being a speed weapon on the basepaths. His fielding good too. He is just too good to keep on the bench.
Maybe MY could DH only and let Olt play in the field for him. This might give MY time to focus only on batting and getting out of his slump. I know Olt can bat but I don't see Wash taking MY out of the lineup, due to his slump, and replacing him with a younger player... at least not yet.
HHD - expanding on the MY issue - you bring up some great points. There are no easy answers here for Wash. MY is the team leader and has nothing to prove - he has delivered many many times for this team in the past - but as you say - it may not be a slump, but more a factor of his age that is catching up with him. Out of respect I just don't see Wash benching MY... not this season but I could be wrong.
I heard on a radio show this morning that there are some whispers that Profar (SS) might be brought up from the minors and he may factor into this Ranger chessboard we have right now. I have no idea how he might shake things up...
But back to MY - I don't think Wash can sit any of the other starters, right now. I too think it might be premature to put Olt in at DH full time. What about Gentry at DH? Moreland needs to stay at 1st. I love Murph and what he does for this team - he has been clutch so many times or got something going when it was needed. I think he should be in there every game.
I would prefer to see Cruz at DH. He makes some exciting catches that shouldn't be. Gentry, Hamilton and Murphy would be a solid defense in the outfield. Gentry would actually seem to be a good choice for leadoff at this time.
Young has been a liability on the field for several years and now he isn't hitting, so use him sparingly. He isn't getting paid enough to make him happy.
Give Hamilton one more shot to sign an incentive based contract and if he chooses to not, TRADE HIM.
When rosters expand bring up Profar for the playoff run for the experience.
I'm increasingly beginning to feel that the Rangers are going to let Hamilton walk after this season. And it's not just a question of the huge price tag vs. his alarming inconsistency and his off-the-field issues. They're well set to replace him in the OF and the lineup with younger, more affordable options.
Kinsler is set to move to the OF, perhaps as early as next season, to make room for Profar at 2B. Olt may move to the OF, as well. Or, Moreland could move to the OF to make room for Olt at 1B. And you've still got Gentry, Murphy, and Cruz as experienced regulars out there, not to mention Martin lurking in AAA.
In fact, not only do I expect to see Hamilton walk after this season, but I could also see the Rangers moving someone like Murphy or Cruz to make room in, and get some return from, a crowded OF.
Sign Ianetta if Napoli is asking for too much. The guy can dig in the dirt, great glove, decent arm, Soto and him w/ make a nice duo
If they let Mike Adams go, it'll be a big mistake if they can't replace him. if Adams goes to LAA it'll be a big swing move even tho LAA needs 2 additional arms in their Pen....plenty are on the market it looks like The Link
yep, you guys have solved the replacing Hamilton deal. It's just astonishing to me, that the best batter on the team can have a great two months, look horrible for two solid months, and not cost the team anything.
That right there tells you we don't really need Hamilton for next year.
In fact, his own stats didn't even suffer that much, except for the batting average, which plummeted about 60-70 points.
And the team itself is probably at a high point, in terms of games over .500.
