gruntled

Man, Is that even English. In my defense, I’ve been in bed sick the last two days.
Speedy recovery...

I believe YOU will be proven right.
I have been on the Burnt Orange Sark band wagon
But this feels different mainly due to the team feeling.

Yes the team and Sark seem to be in complete alignment, but also for me I see proven depth across the board compared to in the past we only have maybe a proven starter at some positions. If disaster doesn't hit in fall workouts leading up to the season we have some really dangerous potential.

I have been watching games from last season on youtube. Gittin warmed up.
Been watching the k state game. we killed them in the first half. scored 4 tds and a field goal on all our drives in the first half at their place. 31-10. In their defense they were missing their starting Qb and a key defensive player. But hey we were missing people too.
Bijan had 161 yards rushing in that first half. so now I'm thinking "we really gonna miss him"
so now I am going to watch the 2nd half.
pretty sure it's not going to be as good as the first half. We were hitting on all cylinders.

Yeah, I saw the game a few months ago on LHN. We barely pulled it out. 2nd half came close to a disaster.

That's gonna be the make-or-break for Sark this season - can he put an end to the 2nd half slides we saw over and over last year.
One key difference that I remember from the stacked Mack years: we had hungry folks come off the bench and play about as good as the competition across the scrimmage line. Thus, it was hammer time for pretty much the entire game. We didn’t have this luxury the last 2 years. Note last year was better than Sark’s first year.

truth
Ford recovered a fumble on k state's last drive in the final minute to preserve the game.
So we scored 31 the first half and 3 the second half.
We went to run the ball/clock/conservative mode in the second half and it almost cost us.
offense became predictable so their defense stopped us on several third downs.. This disturbs me about Sark.
Got to keep the foot on the pedal.

Texas has not had that luxury for over 10 years.

Yeah the depth isn't there yet imo. With nil and the portal, it might be tough.

I did the post about what our 2005 team makeup would have been entirely with backups and 2nd/3rd string performers and that team still would have gone 8-3 before the bowl game or potential conference championship game. I don't think we're quite there today (especially on D), but we're not as far away as we were a few years ago.

You want potent? Potent is the D not knowing if you will burn them for 25+ on 1st down or 3rd down. Potent is the D not knowing if you will cram 4 yards up their middle on 1st down then go for 12 to Whittington in the slot for 12 on 2nd or 3rd. That is potency. To hell with "we must run for X yards on 1st down." Potent is keeping the D off balance and having so many options and possibilities that they can't deal with it.

Except when we go 3 and out for 3 straight possessions due to poor execution, the defense is dog-tired and we’re down 17-0.

MC, remember when Herman came in and they worked on the super hurry up offense? I was genuinely excited until by game two became apparent that just means that after three downs, the office was off the field a lot quicker and the defense just got gassed.

I really do have extreme high hopes this year that the offense is going to be scary for defenses. And I’m not joking with you, but we haven’t had a tight end around here for centuries we haven’t had defensive backs this talented nor this deep for decades and our quarterback room is ridiculous

Hmmmm,
Sanders, Worthy, Mitchell, Whittington, Neyor.
Wow how do you stop that?
Only an effective pass rush can begin to slow those horses.
Thank goodness we have an excellent o-line with solid backups.
The DCs are going to have major headaches.

I want high percentage plays that get us at least 1 first down, maybe 2. Then go wide open.

Only if Sark doesn't try to preserve a 4 pt. lead with 10 min left running into a stacked DL.

crap,
I just realized that a great deal of my hope for a very successful season rests on the two I scolded the most last season. And for legitimate reasons.
QE and Worthy.
plus we don't have Bijan, Roschon and Overshown.
OK, don't panic.
Have to figure this out.

QE was a 5 or 6 last year. I really believe he is much more committed and focused. perhaps he can be a 7 1/2 or an 8.
Worthy seems more focused also. Plus we have good depth and talent at wr.
QB Murphy may hold his own also.
Sanders has first round draft potential. Right up there with Bowers from Georgia.
well almost.

I am concerned about RB position. Notable drop-off from last year. Many are high on Brooks, I am not so sure. So we may be going from 9.8 to 8.
Offensive line, not worried about. We got some dogs.
I feel pretty good about the defense as a whole. Thank goodness Ford is back. Strong secondary.
Good leadership and team unity.
OK, I feel better. Just had a brief panic attack.

I'm in that club. He is the dude. If he does not average 20 touches a game this season, then Sark is stupid. JBrooks is your horse and you gotta ride your horse.
I agree, even if the results are pedestrian. You have to keep the defense honest. To have big passing plays, you need an honest threat at RB. One big run (>40 yards) out of 20 attempts would be perfectly fine even if total run yards was less than 100. Brooks can definitely bring that threat.

In the last presser Sark was asked if he would put four wide receivers on the field.
He said he might play five.
He said you can't double cover all of them and stack the box for the run.
I have a feeling our offense is going to be all over the field as it should be.
This wide receiver room and tight ends are going to be looking for touches as well.
But Sark has always relied on the run game so it will play a big part I'm sure.
If the offensive line gives Ewers time and he makes the correct decisions. I don't know who could stop this team.
