No way that little slap in the face by Pitman's hand did that to Griffin. I think he got kicked in the head when he fell down and Atchley or someone fell over him, kicking him in the head.

Hard to say. I've heard of people having concussions from some random stuff. Dexter's thumb must be made of steel. I do believe he wasn't right, but I'll take this win either way. OU can take a positive out of this as in that they can score just fine with Blake out of the lineup. Man, what I wouldnt give for one of their shooters.

During the ESPN Sportscenter highlights after the game, they showed another highlight that looks like it was it instead of that first one.

Balbay steals the ball in the backcourt, and it looks like Chapman laid an elbow across Griffin's face.

either way the griffin didn't look right after he went out. blake seems like a good kid. hope everything's okay and we play them again in the tourney.

Well, your nasal cavity is connected with your ear system, which aides in the sense of hearing, but it also aides with your equilibrium.

Its so fitting that the Oscars are tonight...

Im pretty sure he was trying to give Heath Ledger a run for his money...

EDIT:
Not saying he wasnt hurt. But all the sideline acts like sitting on his coaches lap.. acting like he didnt know what was going on, ect. was a little over the top. I just didnt ever see anything that wouldve constituted that sort of behavior. It definately wasnt Dex.

He might have been arguing to go back in, but I'm not sure he could have found the court. That kid was off in the distance, I mean WAY OFF. He didn't look right from the moment he stepped back onto the court for the 2nd half.

A post on an OU board by a former trainer said he was GUESSING (had not talked to anybody on the OU staff ) that he had something similar to an inner ear concussion (he gave the medical name for it, but don't remember it). The symptoms are nausea, balance issues & sensitivity to light. Said normally the symptoms subside in 24 hours, which is good with the Jayhawks coming to town on Monday.

I just read a report on ESPN that appears to be updated this afternoon, and they are still claiming it was Pittman's hand that did this. I just don't get it. A hand causing a concussion?? Just maybe a closed fist as in throwing a punch, but an open hand, accidentally causing a concussion?

To me this goes right up there with Vegas having the 'horns a 1 point favorite. Just unbelievable

I was hoping it was a concussion rather than a heart issue causing him to go hypo-oxic. It was (and is) odd that ESPN is sticking to the Big Dex poke as the damaging blow. Huge win for the Longhorns! With Griffin getting two early fouls, and the success Balbay had getting to the hole, he might never have been much of a factor, but everyone is still saying we beat OU's b team. To which,I say "********". More shots for Willie Warren is a darn good thing for OU. Balbay locked Austin up all night.... great to watch. Nice for AJ to go Reggie Miller on the Sooners too. Different storyline for this Texas team, stealing victory from the jaws of defeat. That scrip was flipped from Mizzu,Kansas State, and Nebraska. Texas has a good shot to make the tournament now unless something odd happens, like losing to Tech at home....... I worry about Baylor. It would be gravy to win in Stillwater. But that one will be tough with us still high post OU, and them in the same position we were needing a huge win. I think the Cowboys get us.....

Get real OUE. Griffin was a total non-factor when he was in the game. UT had game planned their D around stopping him and he was already frustrated before getting hurt. After drawing 2 fouls he also became ineffective on defense, allowing Balbay to get to the rim. And with him in Warren probably isn't jacking up all those 3s.

Just because he came back with a strong second half against Iowa State doesn't mean he would have done the same Saturday night.

OUEngineer, that is my point exactly when you say we beat a lesser team. Often when a player goes down the rest of the team plays inspired ball. In example, last year, Indiana University has three straight games with co-leaders of the Big 10 at home in late February with the Kelvin Sampson saga in full blow. The Hoosiers lost the first game in crushing fashion when the Wisconsin center banked in a 3 pointer. The next game was two days later against Michigan State. Early in the first half DJ White hurt himself and left for the rest of the game. The rest of the team picked it up and played inspired ball to beat Michigan State by 17 points. By your argument, IU beat Michigan State with its b squad, but that is not true. I don't want anyone taking away from UT's win with that talk, but it is happening with your talk and, more damning, the national media's. If Griffin played, I'm fairly certain Willie Warren doesn't get his chance to shine. And Griffin had two fouls in the first eight minutes of the game. You've got a great team, a likely Elite Eight or Final Four team. And we beat the OU Sooners fair and square, full tilt. If you don't think the rest of your team stepped it up on Saturday, I don't know what to say? Texas could sure use Warren or Cocker to shoot the rock. Warren IS Joe Dumars. He needs to go pro in a down year for NBA talent!!

OUE, did you happen to notice that Texas played the last few minutes without Damion James or Gary Johnson? Would Griffin have been guarding AJ Abrams down the stretch?

You weren't playing Iowa State and BG was getting pwned. How he might have performed in the 2nd half is pure speculation and assumes he wouldn't have gotten in more foul trouble. Once he did in the 1st half he became a defensive liability.

I'm certainly not going to say their a better team without him, but I have no qualms with saying I think we have just as good a chance beating them Saturday night with him or without him.

The fact is, he "played" virtually the entire first half. While he may have had to sit the bench with foul trouble for a lot of the half, he didn't go out with his injury until there was 3:48 left in the half. And at the point he went out, we were actually up by 8. OU then cut it down to 5 by half time. Frankly, even without the injury I'm not sure he stays out there longer than he did in the first half. And even if he did, I don't think they cut it closer than 5, especially since when he was in there after his 2nd foul he played no defense and Dog could take it right at him (fwiw, from the point of his 2nd foul to the end of the 1st half, OU was -4 with BG in and +1 with BG out).

Maybe without the injury he comes out in the 2nd half and tears it up. But I'm not sure the fact that he has done that in the past is any indication that he would have done it Sat. Moreover, if BG comes out and has a huge 2nd half, I think it would have largely been at the expense of of WW's 17 point 2nd half.

Again, nobody knows what happens if BG doesn't get injured, but I think it is just as likely that we would have won.

On any given night, it'd be much easier playing OU without Blake Griffin than with him.

The way last Saturday was going, there didn't seem to be much of a difference.

It's a W for the Horns. Put an asterisk by it if you're a zero..

Let's win the next game.

It's 12:47 AM and ou still sux.

Master of the Obvious:
1. OU was not as good without their best player
2. OU still played very well, so it was a very good win for UT
3. By the same token, it was not a bad loss for OU, losing on the road without their star player.

I got really peeved at Griffin's Dad last night when interviewed. He was whining that the refs in Austin weren't making the calls they should have been making, intimating his son got hurt because refs let UT get away with unnecessary roughness. I think that was far from the truth - I in fact appreciated the fact that the refs let there be a flow to the game. Blake's injury was an unintentional accident, so much so, nobody can even tell exactly when the injury occurred or who did it! Did I misunderstand "Dad"?

I thought the dad came off somewhat douchey. For god sakes, the mizzou guy hits Atchley in the face and he almost bites off his tongue. **** happens down low. None of the potential shots to the face were intentional. Your son is a freaking post player in the Big 12- its going to get rough inside. The dad comes off sounding like a poon complaining that we were too rough for his boy. I actually like BG and think he's been a good sport the entire time he's been a sooner but his dad is making an *** out of himself in my opinion.
