My 81 year old grandma has to have her toe removed this morning around 10:30am. She's had diabetes for quite a few years. A little more than a week ago she went to the doctor and had a procedure done on her toe. We had a family get together last Saturday, and I noticed her toe was covered with blood when her shoe fell off. I let her know because she can't feel her extremities all that well.
She went into the hospital today because it had become infected. I just found out she's getting it removed. I guess so the infection won't spread.
I've had two people close to the family (aunt and an uncle's brother) die recently because of infections they got from the hospital after surgery. It's scary to think how likely it is to get an infection from a hospital during a procedure. Older people can't fight it off and they end up dying.
Even with diabetes and how it's been slowly deteriorating her body, she wasn't the grandmother I was most worried with. My other one is 98 going on 99. She's in and out of senility. Just a few weeks ago we thought she was on her last legs, but she pulled out of that low spot.
Prayers for my family, if you please.
