Offense

-Win-check
-35+ points-check
-100% Green Zone scoring-check
-450+ yards total offense-no check
-40% or better on 3rd downs-check
-1 or fewer turnovers-check
-Four plays 20+ yards long-check
-60%+ pass completions-check
-No sacks allowed-check
-Eliminate foolish penalties-check
-Win the 4th quarter-no check

9 of 11. I really don’t care about the 450+ yards in this case because our average field position was more than preferrable. If you can’t get 450 in doing that, no big deal. We also called off the dogs in the 3rd, so that would also make the 450 less likely. I was really pissed off about the not winning the 4th quarter because that was the offense’s fault.

Defense

-Win-check
-17 or fewer points-check
-Force 2+ turnovers-check
-Give offense the ball twice or more inside the 50-check
-Force five 3-and-outs-check
-No run over 20 yards-check
-No pass over 25 yards-no check
-49% or worse completions-no check
-Goal line or 4th and short stop-check
-Less than 200 yards passing-check
-Less than 100 yards rushing-check
-Less than 300 yards total offense-check
-Score on defense-check
-Shut out-no check

11 of 14. Easily the best defensive performance we’ve had both in terms of this sheet and simply what you saw. They shut down the passing game in the long run, the Piglets couldn’t run the ball, we harassed Dick all day (that is not grounds for a lawsuit), and most importantly, the D made life for the offense a lot easier. I am very happy with this performance.

Special Teams

-No penalties-no check
-No blocked punts allowed-check
-No blocked PAT's/FG's allowed-check
-No fumbles-check
-No more than 10 yards per return covering punts-check
-Catch all fieldable punts-check
-Average 10+ yards per return on all fieldable punts-no check
-Return 1 kickoff past our own 40-no check
-No kickoff return past their own 35-no check
-PAT's 100%-check

6 of 10. Not too happy with this. It was the worst performance of the season from this group and frankly, I’m getting very irritated with the first stat. We’ve made at least one penalty on a special teams play in every game this year. That **** costs you in close games against good teams. We need to get that **** taken care of. Also, our kickoff coverage was shakey early on but it improved over time. The return game, however, is still a cause for concern.

Overall, this statistically matched the FAU effort (26/35), but it was easily the best game we’ve played this year simply because of the defense’s utter dominance today coupled with the fact that it was a typical outting for the Horns’ vaunted offense. Hopefully we can build on this in conference play.

On a more personal note, I would just like to reiterate what I’ve been saying for the past few years: When SEC teams come to play Texas, they don’t just lose the game on the scoreboard, they get ******* hurt.

Thanks, slugga! Been lookin' forward to this post all evening.

The sheet truly is amazing--our offense and defense dominated, but special teams seemed a bit iffy. The sheet reflects that to a tee.

It's never acceptable to cough up the ball and let the other team pick it up and score, much less in the 4th quarter. It doesn't matter what the score is. The kids who were playing may not have been starters, but that misses the point. Every player needs to play sound fundamental football and turnovers that go all the way back are substandard.

Regarding punt returns: Quan isn't as fast as he was coming out of high school, but he's a great return man because he runs up field instead of dancing or moving laterally. That said, either we're facing some above-average punters, or our blockers are not doing a very good job of delaying the other team's gunners.

Any idea which it is? Or do you think there's another reason why Quan hasn't busted a long one (EDIT: other than the penalties, of course)?

On the bright side, our kickoff returns have been pretty solid.

Thank you HP! I missed the second half. My VFD was out fighting a pasture fire. Two shits and one *******! HP is not happy. So there's room for improvement on STs? Okay. The D is coming together. The O is working. Onward to CO.

I'm happy with the performance. The cursing is a symptom of the fact that I hate Arkansas.

Let me re-phrase that. The cursing is a symptom of the fact that I ******* hate Arkansas.

Obviously situation penalties matter. An illegal receiver penalty killed Wisconsin today. But it wasn't so much the yardage of the penalty as what it prevented from happening. Perhaps number of penalties is more closely correlated to success than yardage.

The reason that Quan hasen't busted a long punt return is that our blockers haven't done a good job at delaying the other teams gunners. As a matter of fact, we have done a piss pore job. I even noticed this last year.

I have a question.

On the national rankings of offense, defense, rushing, etc.....

Does the 7 they scored on Chiles' fumble go against our defensive points allowed average?

It unfortunately counts against the defense in national stats (I assume you're referring to ncaa.org) because they go by "points allowed" when they talk about "scoring defense."
