Good Roy Williams still possible for Cowboys?

According to Jerry in the DMN this morning he is still looking for another offensive receiving threat. Could Detroit be interested in dealing?

"There might be great value for our team with some of that collateral we have with those [first-round] picks," Jones said. "What if someone wants to give us a hell of a player that really fit and improved our offense? That's the kind of universe I can conjure up.

"We could set up here and get a premium receiver on the other side of Terrell and have a tandem."

How would Chad Johnson look on the other side of Owens? Or Anquan Boldin? Or Roy Williams? All are Pro Bowl wide receivers. Johnson is 30, Boldin 27 and Williams 26. All might be available when the Cowboys go on the clock at 28.

As a Lions fan that keeps up with the team, it is highly unlikely that they will move Williams. Admittedly with Millen around, anything is possible, but I don't see it happening.

I think all 3 are very much in play. In the current state Dallas is in, they need someone to step in right away. And usually when a WR opens his mouth about being the least bit unpleased, they end up being shipped out.

Maybe we could sign Roy Williams and release Roy Willams on the same day? Naw, too much to hope for...

Out of those three players, I'd say that Boldin is the most likely to be moved, if any. He was waiting on Fitzgerald to sign an extention so he could use that as a guide to what he should get seeing as how he's only making around $2-3 million per year right now. The Cardinals aren't going to be able to afford to keep both Fitzgerald AND Boldin. It'll take a 1st Rounder to get him.

Roy Williams would be the next most likely to leave. I don't think he likes being on a loser and money isn't going to woo him over to stay. He's gonna want a big-time payday with a long-term deal. He also would like to come back to Texas at some point. It'll take a 1st Rounder to get him as well.

Chad Johnson is the least likely to get moved out of these three. The Bengals seem to be VERY firm on their position of not caving into his tantrums ala T.O. of years past. He's gonna have to do something major to get them to trade him and I think it would take a 1st Rounder and then some to pry him out of their hands.

Love him or Hate him, Evil Roy was a BMF in college. Anyone that says different is just hating because he is from OPuke.

Now, Good Roy coming back to TX to the Big D would be AWESOME! I would actually make an effort to watch the Boys play this season.

Williams performance, or lack thereof in the Cowboys' secondary is a testament to the difference in speed of the college and pro games.

I agree with Flaco and Third Coast. Roy was 7th in Heisman voting, won the Nagurski and Thorpe awards, and was a unanimous all-America selection. You don't get all that because of one play.

Roy Williams, Dallas safety, was a helluva college players and has been to multiple pro bowls (voted on by the players) in the NFL and received a darn fine contract after his rookie contract was up. He still lays a fearsome lick. He's a step slow on the deep coverage and offensive coordinators exploit that weakness. He's a football player and there's a role for him somewhere. It's not chasing wide receivers and the speedier tight ends of the NFL.

The Cowboys can't trade evil Roy Williams because of the cap hit they would take this year. More than likely he will be on the team this year and cut before next season.
