Hey hey, it's my turn to start one of these.

Played the UT Golf Club last weekend. Par 71, 7145 yards from the back

, which is where we played it from. This is a serious golf course. I shot 39-50 for a SMOOOOTH 89. With the exception of holes 5 and 6, the course is fair, decently wide open, and very challenging. 5 and 6 are a little dumb, with some blind shots to unlevel landing areas, and just general poor design. However, they don't detract from the courses overall rating too much, because the rest of the layout is fantastic. Greens rolling 9.5+ on the stimp, and smooth as a baby's butt. VERY hilly greens, and VERY big. It's also nice to be surrounded by all that burnt orange ... if you get the chance, check it out.

Is there anywhere besides golf512 to get deals on golf?

I play 1-2 times per week mostly at munis and golf512 deals. I can justify up to about $30-35 at my skill level/pay scale.

I prefer to walk when it's not 1/4 mile between holes. But it seems most deals include a cart. Are there any good deals around for walkers?

Thx

Played Falconhead on Friday afternoon...Course is in pretty good shape, with the only blemish being some spotty greens in places. Definitely a fun layout, but they can be a little too proud of the course, depending on when you choose to play. It is worth playing for $50 or less. Anything more would be better spent elsewhere..

Played Circle C yesterday. Course is in pretty good shape, though the greens need a little work. I imagine it is pretty difficult for the courses right now, as the weather keeps changing...Got it for $35 on golf512, so it was definitely worth that much...

played crystal falls today --Especial has it for $24 bucks on the weekends. Greens are in terrible shape, but othertwise the course is ok. wish i could say the same for my game.

I do not know why you dislike hole 5 and 6 so much. 5 is one of the best holes that I have ever seen and is a great challenge, but if you miss in the correct space you can still save par. That is the same with 6 on the tee shot, and just don't be in the bunkers left on 6 and you should be alright.

Played at Avery Ranch yesterday. Not in good shape. Greens were bare and really just top dressed. Fairway were spotty. I would avoid for awhile.

outside of Avery which was just mentioned, any other courses in bad shape?

Colovista
Star Ranch
Teravista

anyone know what shape these are in?

Star Ranch:
buddy of mine played there last week, said greens were in great shape. Didn't mention the fairways so I will assume that no news is good news there

Teravista I played Sunday. It was in good shape for winter. It was a bit soggy from the Sat rains. Greens were smooth, probably 9 on the Stimp. Fwys were good, but they're usually great. I wouldn't pay the full weekend rate for sure.

Played Legacy Hills Sunday afternoon (2/13/05) - $23.50 w/ cart after 2:00. Great deal. It took 2.5 hours to play the front, but then the seniors left the course around 4:30. It only took 1.5 hours to play the back.

Price - great
Course conditions
* Greens - reasonable, putted pretty true and were not slow
* Fairways - fine
* Rough - not much, but I wasn't in it much, actually.

Pretty good value, I'd say.

Played Falconhead on Monday....it was awesome! The fairways are starting to green up fairly well. Greens were true. It was a little sloshy out there with all the rain, but not bad.

The course is really nice. Not impossible, but pretty demanding. Played the gold tees and there were multiple 450 yard par 4s out there. The blues are a little closer, and probably make scoring birdies a bit easier.

Will definitely play Falconhead again.

I got that email too. Not a bad deal it seems.

Playing Falconhead next week, so thanks for the review.

Played Teravista last Friday and it was in decent condition. Greens did roll well but were a little firm on some holes. Fairways are a little spotty, but nothing that detracts from the round. All in all above average for this time of year.

Played the Crenshaw Course out at BCCC last week. Its in great shape, preparing for the Candian Tour events coming up.

Circle C (Sunday March 13th)
Had an 11:00 tee time today. The course was surprisingly empty. My friend and I played as just a twosome and had NOBODY in front of us for the first 14.5 holes. It was great. We waited a little the last few holes, but still finished in 3.5 hours. That's unheard of in my experience.

Two things to note:
1. The greens were fantastic. They rolled great (which is why I only had 28 putts; oh, and I only hit 2 GIR, but that's another story).
2. The bunkers were also excellent. I was in several and had no trouble with bare lies, which is a problem I've had at this course in the past.

I actually have to give the course a good review, and this isn't one of my favorites. They are doing something right.

Plum Creek 3/13

This course is in pretty good shape, too. Greens are great (29 putts, 0 GIR

-- it was the other 73 strokes that did me in). Fairways are in decent shape although there are some bare spots (just a few though). A couple of fairways did have some pretty major cart damage in the low lying areas and they were trying to keep folks out of those areas so they could be repaired.

Glad to hear of the good conditions at Circle C. Have had the same bad bunker condition story before.

I played Forest Creek Sunday, and its conditions were OK. Greens were pretty smooth and quick, but fwy and tee box conditions were lower than average for there. Paid 39, and wouldn't have wanted to pay more.

Played River Place in a scramble format on Saturday. 14 of the greens were fantastic - fast and true, and held shots. The other 4 were as burned out as I've ever seen greens. I"m not sure what happened, but clearly something did. The rest of the course was dynamite. Still not much of a value at $70+, tho, but for a tournament round and whatnot, very enjoyable.

Played Pine Forest, ColoVista and Bluebonnet Hill over the weekend.

Pine was in really good shape, Colo was pretty good, with very nice and fast greens. Bluebonnet had very nice greens, but the fairways are very very firm and have extremely tight lies. They usually are, but they struck me as even tighter than normal. Also, I should have had an alltime low for me at BH (my low is 84), shooting 39 on the front, but had a 54 on the back. Disgusting.
