I've still got my one extra ticket for a seat a few rows back of the bench...

If anyone is interested, they need to let me know by tonight so I can adjust my travel tomorrow (I will not be driving from Austin) and make arrangements to meet out front.

The last time these two teams met, it was in Austin on Jan. 28 and A&M took a 68-54 win. Funny, for some reason, I seem to recall somewhere around a 20pt or more win for the Aggies. Maybe I was just having flashbacks from the OU game just before Aggie came to town. That loss was followed by a five game winning streak for the Horns which ended against OSU last Wednesday. A&M started a five game pattern of Wins and Losses seemingly dependent on whether they were at home (Win) or on the road (Loss). Three home games, three wins with road losses between each win. Now this Texas game is the second of a three game home stand for A&M. Will it be the start of a new Texas win streak or is A&M looking at the second win in their three game home stand? Both teams are 7-4 in Big 12 play along with KSU and ISU. The Aggies only home loss in conference play has been to Baylor, 64-61. The Horns have three impressive road wins: at Baylor (58-55), at OSU (91-74) and at ISU (55-52).

A&M has two players scoring in double figures in Big 12 play: Takia Starks (#3, 5-8 Sr. G; 17.5 ppg) and Danielle Gant (#55, 5-11 Sr. G/F; 14.1 ppg). Starks, (10-28, 35.7%), Tanisha Smith (#22, 6-0 Jr. G/F; 7-19, 36.8%), Sydney Colson (#51, 5-8 Soph. G; 6-22, 27.3%), and Sydney Carter (#4, 5-6 Fr. G; 6-17, 35.3%) are the primary 3pt threats for the Aggies. Starks (72.2%) and Gant (81.4%) are the two that get to the FT line the most. They have each taken about three times more FTs than any other player. They have made just under half the FTs (61-126) and 46% of the FT attempts in conference play. They are second (Gant, 6.0 rpg) and third (Starks, 4.8 rpg)on the team in rebounding. La Toya Micheaux (#12, 6-3 Sr. C)leads them with 7.7 rpg. Starks, Gant, and Micheaux have started all 11 Big 12 games. Colson has started 10 of 11 while Smith, Carter, Adaora Elonu (#21, 6-1 Fr. F) and MaryAnn Baker (#15, 5-10 Fr. G) have taken turns starting during conference games. While nine Aggie players play at least 10 minutes a game in Big 12 games, Starks and Gant are averaging over 33 minutes a game. Colson (23 apg), Gant (22 apg) and Micheaux (19 apg) are the top distributors for the Aggies. Only Micheaux with 11 has more than 10 blocks in conference play. The Aggies have five players with at least 11 steals in Big 12 games with Gant’s 25 and Colson’s 22 tops. The Horns are led by Kat (11.4 ppg) and Brit (10.9 ppg) although they have had trouble scoring the last three games as only Brit has the only game in double digit scoring in those three games among the two. Meanwhile, Lindsey and Erika have taken up the slack with Erika averaging 13.3 ppg and Lindsey reaching double digits in two of the three games. Kat(18-49, 36.7%), Brit (12-39, 30.8%), Ashleigh (8-15, 53.3%), and Erika (10-33, 30.3%) are the top 3pt threats for the Horns. Seven Horns have gone to the FT line at least 21 times in conference games. Only Kat 81.6%) and Brit (72.2%) are hitting over over 67% from the FT line while three are hitting 56% or worse. Carla’s 9-9 is the best percentage on the team. Carla’s 51 assists also lead the team. Her 51 assists are three times more than Ashleigh’s 17, which rank second. Lindsey’s 25 blocks are tops while Gayle’s 15 blocks are second on the team. Ashleigh leads with 21 steals while three others have at least 10 steals.

Projected starting lineups are:
TEXAS

#3 Carla Cortijo, G, 5-7, Sr.
#5 Kathleen Nash, G, 6-2, Soph.
#10 Brittainey Raven, G, 6-0, Jr.
#00 Earnesia Williams, F, 6-1, Sr.
#22 Ashley Gayle, F, 6-4, Fr.
and

TEXAS A&M

#51 Sydney Colson, G, 5-8, So.
#3 Takia Starks, G, 5-8, Sr.
#55 Danielle Gant, G/F, 5-11, Sr.
#21 Adaora Elonu, F, 6-1, Fr.
#12 La Toya Micheaux, C, 6-3, Sr.

In the last game, Starks burned the Horns on 12-22 FGs for 26 pts while Micheaux grabbed 16 rebounds, including 12 defensive rebounds. The Horns post players undoubtedly are seeing the following Micheaux quote in their sleep and hearing it during rebounding drills: "No one was putting a body on me, so I just decided to be a beast," Micheaux said.” The Horns have changed their lineup since the A&M game with Gayle and Ashleigh taking the place of Lindsey and Earnie. Both seniors have responded with strong games from the bench during the last six games. It’s possible that the strong play of Erika, Earnie and Lindsey may cause further lineup changes, especially with the Horns struggling to score the last two games.

While the Aggies ran away in the first game, both play full court pressure defense, working to cause turnovers which they turn into easy baskets. This should be a nailbiter of a game. The Horns are normally more reliant on the 3 than the Aggies, not only shooting more but making a better percentage. If they are on, and they can have up to four players on the court capable of hitting the trey, A&M will be hard pressed to stop them. But A&M is well suited to apply pressure in man to man to force contested shots. Both teams should attempt to drive inside to get to the FT line. Lindsey the last two games has given the Horns a good inside scoring presence. as well as her usual defensive game. Can she and Gayle keep Micheaux off the boards and make it difficult for the Aggies to score inside the paint? The inability to do so in the first game hurt the Horns.

Texassports.com preview is up.

A&M preview is up. It does say that tickets are still available, from $10 for general admission to $16 for courtside seats.

This will be an early (11AM) game. The game will be on FoxSportsNet (cable 54 in Time Warner in Austin). The radio boardcast will be on KVET 1300AM. The game will webcast on TexasSportsTV.

Seems to me that we would be better served to have more foot speed on the floor to start this game. We need a second ball handler other than Carla and I don't think this lineup provides that. I don't want to start this game again with turnover after turnover like happened in the last meeting.

Kat is really asserting herself on the boards. And Carla and Brit are taking it to the goal. Horns up 9-4, Kat has three rebounds in the first 3 minutes.

A&M is really playing the cross court passes well, picking off a couple. But the Horns are getting some fastbreak opportunities. Brit just blew a layup while being bumped but the energyis much better. FT shooting is still spotty. Carla goes 1-2 for a 10-6 Horn lead/

12-8 Horns with 11:38 to go. Horns have let a few scoring opportunities slip through their fingers. But they are challenging shots a lot more and Kat is working the defensive boards hard. A&M is having a hard time driving inside.

17-10 Horns with just under 8 minutes left in the half.
yippee.gif
Horns are having a tough time scoring but they are making some shots while keeping the Aggies from scoring. Erika is cold so far. Yvonne is having an excellent game so far.

Gotta be SMART enough to let go when your teammate has the ball.
Why do we play like Junior High girls. Throwing passes with players standing in the passing lane, Trying to throw to a player that is double teamed, standing and waiting on a pass instead of stepping to it, watching a shot instead of moving and blocking out, etc, etc, etc..... ??? AARRRGGHHH

31-27 Aggies at the half. Horns giving up TOs and not hitting shots the last three minutes.Gant is awesome. She's outhustling everyone. Kat is really working hard on the boards. Just wish her shot would come back. She has missed one wide open 3. Horns need to keep driving to the basket. They are hitting their FTs this game.

come on, Horns. This would be a nice scalp to get.

Like how Yvonne plays. Need to have Erika warm up since she has been getting open shots. And Kat needs to look for her shot more.

Gant is awesome. I had thought she was interested in Texas while still in high school. What a great get she would have been. She has a nose for the ball and man is she ever tough.

That A&M court is one of the ugliest I have ever seen.

Aggies up by five. Horns seem to have lost their shooting touch.

Kristen got three points on a FT and a short drive for a FG. Careless passing by both teams but A&M is doing better getting pts off those than Texas.

just not being aware of who's around you. Horns are in danger of letting A&M just run away with this one.

I sure hope Reed can hit the boards. This squad seems to give up to many offensive rebounds. Reed and Bone together could certainly turn our rebounding around.

Yeah, you'd think Kelsey Bone would know that she'd get playing time at UT if she were to come.

Horns are way too sloppy. Dribbling way too much.
