And on the day Gilbert is to announce, and did announce, that day that the Austin paper covered this year's recruiting, Kirk Bohls presented on page 1 of the sports section an entire feature hitting at Mack Brown for not going after more out-of-state players since he got here.
Way to go, Kirk. Shows once again you are sitting up all night trying to come up with "hey, guys, did yaw think about this?" The next morning's paper is going to congratulate this year's recruiting class and what lies ahead, but Kirk is busy showing he's The Man on Top of Things, always peeling back layers and letting us all in on the latest and greatest wisdom and critique of Texas sports.
Kirk, we have an excellent coach and coaching staff and University that can handle things just fine, thank you very much.
Take the rest of the year off, Kirk, while the rest of us talk about this year's group and about the stunning announcement by a 5-Start championship quarterback who can't wait to come to Texas. The out-of-staters... they haven't a clue what it means to be a Longhorn.
I don't think this kid will back out - he loves UT like the rest of us. However, I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch - a lot can happen in a year (a lot can be self inflicted).
I'm very happy for Garrett and for Texas. Garrett is a great kid both on and off the field and will be a tremendous asset going forward. Congratulations to him and to his family.
This kid could be an absolute Longhorn legend when he is done here. He's a lifelong Horn fan, and a leader that wanted to be the first commit in what will be an incredible class for '09! Welcome Gilbert!
Ditto an implication mentioned above... by end of next season, he may be the #1 player in the nation.
He'll have a senior year under the prior Stephenville coach who coached Jevan Sneed. Gilbert is literally going to a prep school to prepare for UT. Same as.
Now offensive players for '09 can plan to join him!! I say, ya'll come!!
Mack needs to play Colt/Chilies or Harris this year and show everyone that we can have a pocket passer and a "running/scrambling" Qb for the zone read. We could possibly get both GG and Shepard
