One of my staff sgts in iraq was was part of a delta co. detachment (4th recon division) attached to first when the writer of Generation Kill was penning the original articles for Rolling Stone. He wasn't very happy with the book, claiming it made 4th look bad (basically the active duty recon bad-mouthing reservist recon).
I flipped through the book at BookPeople and wasn't impessed with the first five pages, but that is hardly enough to make a proper review.
I'll watch on Sunday and share my thoughts if I notice any continuing conversation about it.
When my parents were growing up, nearly everyone spent some time in the military. (1940s-50s)
I have a cousin from a small town in Missouri who was in the marines and I know a guy who flew for the navy, but I basically know private & general/admiral and that's about it. I think most people now don't know **** when it comes to the differences in ranks, divisions, units...
The military buffs do, but the average person doesn't.
I've been looking forward to this show for a couple of weeks now and it did not disappoint. I can't wait for the next 6 episodes.
There's a lot of terminology that was going right over my head and the are a lot of characters, but I'm going to watch this episode again and try to get it all straight.
If you are confused by the terminology and overall pace of the series, go here to the Chicago Tribune blog post contaning a glossary of terms and other useful info.
Wow - very nice initial episode. Little speechless at the ending. Totally understand and agree with the decision, but you can see why the resistance started to build.
