Garret Greenlea

Does anyone know anything about this young man? He is quoted as saying that, although he grew up an OU fan (and OU has offered), if Texas were to offer, it would be a two team race. He is also on ESPN's 150 watch list. So it would appear that he is a really good player.

I don't think UT is going to offer.

His dad is a big OU fan and his grandfather has a ranch in Oklahoma. I think he's our's to lose.

Going to a school and playing for a school are different.

Seems like aggy passed on him and we may or may not (guess we will know soon)

I think we won't offer.

Let's let Mack and company work this out. The kid is an immense talent. He's maturing and making his own decisions. OU and Texas both have great programs, but there are significant differences in the head coaches and their approach to the game. As academic institutions they differ. I think the adults involved in Greenlea's life won't make him honor allegiances he had no part in forming and will let him make decisions based on what's best for him.

If he struggles academically (which a poster suggested I certainly know of no issues) then OU might be a better choice because there he will be competing for grades with students of more academically diverse backgrounds. Except for athletes/musicians etc. UT pretty much only accepts elite academic performers. Then again, maybe he'll want to compete with the best in the classroom and on the field.

It's not a choice we can make for him.

Problem is, with Floweers committing and Hegerty and Westerman still on the radar, I think Greenlea is on the outside looking in. I hope we get all three.

I really hope we offer Greenlea. He's got a ton of talent and really takes pride in run blocking.

I say we offer Greenlea, Hegarty, and Westerman and just see who commits. I wouldn't be opposed to taking 7 OL this year.

Sound like, if Greenlea expresses interest, we should too. If he was so hardcore OU, he would not be indicating his interest in Texas.

If he's "our's" to lose and likes OU and all that, why doesn't he just commit right now?

If we offered and he takes it, then 4 months from now switches to sooner, we've probably already lost out on either Westerman or Hegarty or both. I'm sure Mack doesn't offer unless he's convinced by the kid and parents that his love affair with ou was just infatuation.

Congrats on the pickup.

My thoughts were predicated on UT not offering. I said as much in my first post in the thread.

UT pretty much owns us in head-to-head recruiting battles at the moment. Just reality. Until OU can reverse the current RRS trend, it's likely to continue.

Sigh.

Do we offer Spencer Drango? He looks to be the last top OL left in the state.
I know we will still take the two OOS recruits, but we need the numbers. I say take the top 3 left and be happy. (and greedy)

Hey engineer, stoops is probably gonna get a couple more top drawer players out of Texas this year than last. This is the modern era and we can't take 'em all.

bevaux, that seemed to be pretty popular opinion after your first junior day.

OU will haul a nice class, no doubt. UT won most of the head-to-head last year, but it didn't prevent us from landing a top ten class.

OU is right. Even if y ou get the top ones there is still much talent in the state. Years ago an expert recruiter once remarked "You take the top 50 recruits in the state and then any 5 others youi want such as a kicker, etc. I'll take the rest. I'll beat you."

Fortunately no one can get all the rest but the point is that there is lots of great talent available.

There's this too...UT and zero-u generally are only recruiting a handful of the same players in any given year. okie's always liked to cherry-pick Texas, because generally they haven't been able to just come in and take who they want, with the exception of some of the Switzer years.
