Gameday To Austin Saturday...Again

Technically it was Dallas and the State Fair and both Texas and zero u were hosts
But it still was Gameday with Texas.
Have they ever gone to collieville?

Hot damn! 2x in one year? When has tha happened before? I can’t recall - but that is freakin’ outstanding, Pvt Pyle!!

it’s a good time to be a Longhorn. Don’t you ferget it, noways!!

Not only was ESPN’s College Gameday here for the Texas/Bama game, but also FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff crew (which this year has been traveling around to a different campus each week). The FOX crew was in the southwest corner of the stands and ESPN was in the southeast corner (where the LHN crew typically sits). Not sure why we didn’t have NBC and CBS crews in the other corners of the stadium, guess CDC was slacking that week. :smile1:

Wikipedia says so with 6 hosts and 9 appearances. aggy is an impressive 1-8 in those - not sure how somebody lost to them, honestly. That 0.111 winning percentage is worst for any team that's actually won a game. Next worse would be 0-5 Georgia Tech.

But, Herbie wasn't wrong.
Unless I am mistaken, the cesspool comment happened during the Strong era. Herbstreit took issue with the fact that the fan base was not pleased with the team’s performance under Strong, and they (we) wanted him replaced.

IMO Herbstreit took a reality — poor coaching/under achievement — and chose to leverage it into a social statement. I thought it was classless and baseless then, and I still do today.

If he wants to talk about a cesspool, he should be talking about Columbus, not Austin.

I thought it was referring to the Mack Brown firing and the behind the scenes politics of the athletic department.

Kirk Herbstreit calls Texas a "cesspool" during GameDay rant

"If you're Charlie Strong, you're going to get paid well and you're going to get released. When I say released, you're going to get released from being in the cesspool of Austin, Texas and the attitude that comes being with the head coach at Texas. To me, you chased away Mack Brown after nine years getting double-digit wins and you're going to chase away Charlie Strong and whoever the next guy is you're going to chase away," Herbstreit said. "Who would want the job at Texas, to be the head coach, dealing with the boosters, the presidents, the ADs, the attitudes and message boards and talk shows."

Sounds accurate to me. I didn't like it at the time, but now who is going to argue with it?

Herbie was exactly correct. He just didn't understand that both those guys would need to be chased away, one for total incompetence, and the other for total assholishness.

Thanks. But I strongly disagree with his assessment. Mack Brown was the darling of the fan base until he made the idiotic decision to change the offense (copy Alabama) after 2009, and then he got lazy and stopped recruiting as well. So yes, the fan base and the BMDs turned against him. So did I.

I really liked Charlie Strong, the man. Many did, and we all wanted for him to succeed. But he was a woefully ineffective head coach.

Herbstreit’s observation is absurd because if what happened at Texas – with respect to the on the field performance – had happened at Ohio State, their behavior would’ve been considerably worse. And frankly, he knows that. The dig at Texas was somewhat strategic (by him) IMO. He is and will always be an Ohio State homer.
