Game Three vs. K-State

Horns jump out to a quick 2-0 lead on three consecutive extra base hits. Still we had two strike outs with a runner at third with one out. We need all we can get today, needed to put the ball in play and score that run.

Really could use five innings out of Jacques today with a short bullpen today.

Jacques looked sharp in the first retiring the Cats in order with one K. Breaking pitch was featured and he had good command.

Let's play add on Horns.

Jacques still pitching well, but a wind aided homer slices the lead in half, 2-1 now Horns after 2 complete.

Have to score some runs if we want to win today.

Horns plate two more on a single by Etier and a long home run into the wind by Weis. Now 4-1 Texas in the middle of the third.

I'm stuck at the office today with no access to TV or radio. Keep the updates -- and the runs -- coming. Thanks!

Jacques works out of a bases loaded jam with a big K swinging. He had lost command of his slider and walked two after a single. Any time you hang a 0 on the board today is big.

That could be a game changer

Now a lead off single ends the day for the K-State starter. Now lets get after this very questionable pen. Keep adding on Horns it's that kind of day@

Bullpen will not be short today. If the game stays close Augie will call on it early and often.

we have used our pen alot is what is meant by a short pen, yes we will use it if needed but Knebel is probably not available after yesterday. Milner has been used twice, could get an inning by him. Curtis and Peters too.

Meanwhile Jacques sets them down in order, nice outing for Rickey so far. Horns lead 4-1 after 4 complete

Rickey had a better 4th inning today than he did in Norman last week. His 3rd inning was rough but he got out of it.

In our 5th, they finally got Etier and Weiss but Walsh got his 2nd hit, but he was lob.
4-1, bottom of 5

leadoff double for ksu

And that is the prime example, If Milner was fresh, we make the move, but was trying desperately to get 5 innings out of Jacques.

So in a big jam as Milner enters, runners on second and first with on outs. Texas leads 4-2 bottom of the fifth.

It would not surprise me to see knebel today. I also think there's a good chance he is a starting pitcher before the year is over.

And as could be expected Milner doesn't have his best stuff and walks two. Is able to keep it tied at 4.

To the top of the sixth tied at 4, got to score runs off this bad pitching staff, or you lose.

Maitland hits it a ton to right field but the wind holds it up and we don't score again. Bottom of the sixth still tied at four

Knebel might try and gut out one inning if we can get the lead late. If anybody leaves the pen to become a starter it would be Milner not your prize closer.

None of it matters if we can't hit a staff like K-State. Milner is pitching on fumes today. Augie has little confidence in Bellows and Discharry and it leaves the bullpen light.

Two hits and we are back in a jam again. This the is kind of game that was expected today, had to score early and often. We did the former, but not the latter so far.

K-State like us can't get the sac down and Milner manages to wriggle off the hook with a liner fortunately right at Payton to end the inning.

To the 7th still tied at 4.

Payton walks to lead off ther inning, but is picked off first by the catcher. Etieir singles and Weis is HBP. Both teams not playing very well right now.

Got to score and get the lead and try to piece something out of the pen the rest of the way.

Walsh doubles to the gap in right center and the familiar score of 6-4 Horns returns

I wouldn't be surprised to see Thornhill up in the pen today if needed.

That's all we get and to the bottom of the 7th up 6-4. Can't see how Milner can go much longer. We will see.

Good inning for Curtis in his first inning of work gives up a single and nothing more. Still 6-4 Texas after 7 complete.

Every time someone gets on you hold your breath because a fly ball to left would tie it. Got to play add on to feel safe.

Strange decision on the bases by Felts after he singles and moves to second on a sac. Tries to go to third on a grounder to short and gunned down. Maitland steals and turns his ankle and Stell replaces him. Shortstop was trying to force Maitland off the bag as he is in pain, but ump has none of it.

Etier grounds out and on to the bottom of the 8th still 6-4 Horns. Try to get one more inning out of your Freshman and then see what happens in the ninth pitching wise.

Curtis gets the first batter, but walks the next one and that is all for him. Looks like Peters in to pitch. Rapidly running out of arms. I saw Discharry up in the pen, but not Knebel yet.

Peters gets his man with a K. Here comes Knebel, hope he can make it through. This is asking alot of your closer after throwing so many pitches yesterday.

I wonder if he just pitches to get the third out, but got to believe he is in for the duration if he can make it.

Knebel immediatly gives up a triple off the wall to make it 6-5. Then a great play by Silver saves the lead for now on a liner he short hopped at first on the backhand side.

This is scary stuff, got to score more runs.
