It appears Westerman has cancelled hit visit with us and will be announcing his decision Friday, 21. Take what you will out of it, but I feel the nail is officially now in the coffin..

Timely decision, especially as it appears that Georgia 247 mods are stating that he accepted the job. I sure as hell hope that MB didn't try rushing the hiring process to cater to Westerman's previously scheduled visit. Tough luck I suppose, but if MB rejected Hand and Bostad, I guess he sees something special in the guy..

Ryan Greenlea says westerman still with Tx. Could just mean he likes the hire and doesn't need to visit. Then again he could be gone. But oh well

One more reason why Mason Walters has got to be moved to OT. He is a tackle. Hopefully our new OL coach will come in & that will be the first change he makes.

RT - Walters
RG - Allen
C - Snow
LG - Hopkins
LT - Kelley

One recruit is not going to make or break this recruiting class or Texas later down the road. There will be another stud olineman out there somewhere next year and we'll be in the hunt for him I'm sure.

We've recruited well the last couple of years with mainly 4 stars recruits so now we'll see if it was coaching or talent (or lack thereof).

If Westerman never wanted to be here 100% then I don't want him here. We'll be fine moving forward and I wish him well moving forward too.

I saw the kids video and was blown away. He has talent but like others have said. 1 Recruit will not break Texas. I would love the kid to come but if he doesn't... well... that's that.

Burton saying Westerman going to Auburn and Texas was eliminated because they did not hire the Coach Westerman wanted? Young man you are just one player, you are not the team. These guys have to find out life is not just about them. Good Luck. I never felt Westerman was really coming to Texas anyway.

Westerman was the cherry on top of this class. Would have been nice to have, but the ice cream is still good & that's why you ordered the sundae......not for the cherry.

If true, I say good riddance. I obviously don't know the kid but he strikes me as somewhat of a prima donna (or at least Dad is making him seem to be one) that the 'Horns are probably better off without. Yeah, I know, kids will be kids, but if he really doesn't want to be here, then he needs to be somewhere else. I wish him well (except when he plays against Texas). War Eagle.

I still hope the kid comes here. He's a definite need in a weak run-blocking OL. We'll see come signing day, but I think if he has canceled his visit, it doesn't look good for the Horns.

I'm not heartbroken over this, and I don't fault the kid.

Putting this in the context of my profession, if I accepted a job at a law firm and during my last year of law school all of the best attorneys that recruited me and were part of the practice group I would be working at announced they were leaving for a new firm, I would probably consider going elsewhere (assuming the legal market when I was in law school as opposed to the ****** legal market of today). I don't see Westerman's decision as that different, but I understand those who disagree with me.

He's not the difference between a 5-7 year and our return to BCS contention. We'll be fine without him, and I wish him the best.

It seems every few years we go through this with a stud out of state recruit, ie: the RB a few years back that went to colorado and was never heard from again. Rarely when the out of state recruits waiver at the end, do we come up the winner.
Trust in what we have knowing they wanted to be Longhorns. I think, we'll be fine.

Disappointing. Other than possibly Flowers, Westerman was the only freshamn OL who is ready to come in and contribute right away. Given our lack of quality depth on the OL (or possibly quality, period), he was one of our most important recruits from this class.

The questions is, could there be somebody out there we could swipe at the last minute. We haven't stolen aggy's best recruit in a couple of years, so why not resume that tradition by trying to snatch Joseph Cheek?

*** Edit: Oops, looks like Cheek already enrolled early at agricultural***

I won't wish the MB curse on the kid just for decommitting however... should this presser contain one tiny shred of, "I want to go where I have the best chance for a MNC, blah, blah, blah..." then stand back kids cause I'll go full-scale, psycho Harry Potter on his (and his dad's) ***.

In all seriousness, his dad does sound like the one making all of the decisions (or at the very least, strongly influencing all the decisions) which tells me that pop's ego is pretty stout along the lines, "my boy is going to the best... whoever that is at the time."

I seriously doubt we see Auburn (WAR EAGLE!!!) in the MNC again anytime soon. They went undefeated HOW MANY TIMES??? and never got sniffed for the "big one" until this year when Cam "For-Sale" Newton came into the fray.

The kid didn't seem to be 100% Longhorn, which thanks to Mack we've all come to appreciate beyond the expression of words. So he should go somewhere else. We already have a top 5 class for 2011. This means we can go after the next OL candidate out there and see if they'd love to be on their own TV network.

I don't want to play next to a guy who feels he is important enough to dictate coaching hires. Anyone who has played o line understands how un-o line that kind of thinking is. No where on the field is a team mentality more essential.
Good luck, young man. I don't think AU is a wise choice, but it's your choice to make.

If true, then good luck to you Mr. Westerman. If I was a stud HS athlete, I'd be a little concerned about the whole Cam play-for-pay scandal and how that might effect the team going forward.

As far as any player being bigger than the team . . . the roster is littered with "can't miss" players and we all saw how that worked out last year.

I can't believe Mack didn't check with Westerman to see who he wanted for his position coach and do whatever it took to get it done.

This is very disappointing.

Good luck to Christian Westerman, wherever you go to college.

He committed to UT after the Longhorns went to the BCS championship game, which obviously caught his eye. I was surprised his commitment held after a 5-7 season. Then with all the coaching changes and uncertainty at Texas, it is not surprising he might want to change his commitment to a team just back from the BCS championship.

Hopefully UT and Auburn will meet in the BCS championship game in the next few years.

"These guys have to find out life is not just about them. Good Luck. I never felt Westerman was really coming to Texas anyway."

Their lives ARE about them. You seriously think that they need to keep the TEXAS football program first and foremost in their minds?

you must have not watched the army game, Flowers took more snaps in the backfield then all the west rbs combined..
If hes college ready, those east dtackles could go 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the draft in 3 years .

Some of you talking about coaches leaving ... So the kid committed to McWhorter and/or Davis? I think 5-7 scared him and he's going with the latest "winner"

Remember that this is the University of Texas not the University of the Recruit. The kid has major talent but if he doesn't want to come here after what he was sold, which has pretty much been stripped away.. then so be it. My understanding is he loved the coaches and the family atmosphere. Well all the coaches he loved are pretty much gone. Does the family atmosphere still exist with new family members? I sure hope so. Westerman... Would love to have you here and be a potential all american but if you decide to go... Our university will survive.

We have a new S&C coach coming in, a new OC, and a new OL coach. Our line play should be very improved next fall.

Westerman, Smesterman.
