Fussell, Enemkpali suspended for KU

The fact that an actual BB coach gets on here talking about maturity and bitching about a coach enforcing disciplinary actions when they have absolutely zero idea of the circumstances that warranted that discipline, makes me wonder if there is a child protective services-like organization for girls basketball players. You shaping young minds is scary as hell to me.

McCoy and Peoples were both chronically injured during their albeit short careers here. Even if they had stayed, they would not have brought much experience to the court because of said injuries. Reed had already missed a year due to foot problems and Bass had concussions last year. This made them question marks going into the season. You can't honestly look at the current guard situation and say that it is full of experienced guards. By that I mean they had played a full season or two. Why do you think Aston brought in a Juco plus a retired softball player? Because the guard depth she was left was insufficient. That is not the best position to be in as a new coach taking over the program.

Who was the recruiter before Aston? GG. Who would have been in a similar position coaching wise due to lack of experienced guard depth if they has stayed? GG. The rest isn't so hard to figure out.

If Bass, Peoples, Sanders, McCoy (and Moore for that matter, who wasn't even mentioned previously) were all on the roster, along with Fussell and newcomer Davenport, you would absolutely have to say we were both deep, and experienced at the guard position. Obviously not as experienced as we would have been if many hadn't been hurt at points, but that's always the case with injuries, and is the same for many teams. And many players, if not most, who are injured - 'chronically' or otherwise - do eventually come back, and continue their careers. Not all, but to say it was known - or even a possibility - that four of the players mentioned would either transfer, leave for other reasons, or retire, is ridiculous. And even with that turn of events, we still have six guards on the roster, inc one of the league's top returning players. But five of the six are newcomers, and clearly the PG role has been a challenge. Many of us have acknowledged that. But this team has other strengths that some expected to make up for our deficiencies, or that would have certainly allowed us to play better than our 9-game losing streak, and 0-7 conference start indicates we have. And our next opponent KSU is playing with just seven right now, no one over 5'11, and inc a frosh, two sophs and a RS-transfer. Yet they just upset the #12 team in the country. And others have pointed out the injury, and roster challenges faced by OU this year. And, obviously, they've still found a way to win most of their games.

To date I have done my best not to compare this team to any other, irrespective of whatever direction those comparisons might be skewed. But it is absolutely unfair to suddenly imply the former coach could have known all of the various challenges this year's squad would face, and even timed - or planned - her departure accordingly. And even now, with the injuries and retirments accounted for, we have a roster of 13. And two of the best players in the league in Fussell and Enemkpali. And two outstanding freshmen in Stafford and Davenport. And - hopefully - a coach, and new staff, that is going to find a way to put all the pieces together, and get the job done. And that sure won't happen by blaming others, or the past, for whatever position we find ourselves in today.

You guys are truly amazing. It's not 100% anyone's fault. There is blame to go around everywhere...players, former coach & staff, current coach & staff.

The cupboard was bare on the guard front tell yourself whatever you want to believe. Those disagreeing are the same ones that see snippets or minutes of intensity in our play and get all encouraged, one of them even called us a great team. You have to strap it up and play hard for 40 minutes. We seriously lack the talent at guard to get that done right now. Circumstances worked against Coach G for sure, but when you look back on her recruiting classes you have to call a spade a spade. Bass and Reed were recruiting misses and are a contributing reason why I say her recruiting was ****. You cannot have someone suited up and ready to play LESS than they are out injured and then want to laud a coach for her stellar recruiting or providing a full cupboard to her successor. It goes on ad nauseum with her recruits....Moore, Bass, Peoples, Reed. No the injuries and conditions are not her fault but you can't nurse a MASH unit and expect to be competitive in the Big 12. At some point you need to have the tough conversations and get that scholarship over to players that can contribute. Part of recruiting is not only talent, chemistry and academic evaluation but also do they have the physical tools/stamina to persevere through an entire D1 college basketball season. A hard thing to evaluate for sure but when I look back on this program (the 90s and the Goestekors era) it seems to be an area where we are woefully inept. And when we do get that chronic injury person into the program rather than try to salvage the situation (hopefully what Aston did with Reed/Bass this year) we milk it along and get all giddy that we'll get them back for a 5th year. Coach G did that with Earnie Williams. And there was a contingent on this board giddy with the fact Cokie might come back next year even though Aston declared her a senior. You need players that give 100% in practice and in games for 100% of the season that you can rely on.

Blaming Coach Goestenkors for this train wreck makes sense to me. I blame Tom Penders for the futility of the Texas men's basketball team. And I'm still upset with Mackovic for the football team's losing season two years ago.

When you use the term "retarded" to describe a person and/or post, I guess your opinions are pretty much white noise to me. You probably don't know someone who is actually mentally retarded so you don't understand the gravity of that label. I realize in our society people think it's synonymous with "idiot"but it's not. However, as for our perspectives on the coaching situation, rather than call you an idiot I think it's safe to say we simply have vastly different opinions about the current situation.

When you do something as asinine as comparing Aston's situation to Barnes and Brown to support your opinion, you calling me an idiot is ******* priceless.

Bless. Now you're adding the "F" word to your labeling. Combine the two and I think you will have hit a homerun and won over even more admirers and friends. Perhaps you should consider less caffeine? Or a hobby that doesn't raise your blood pressure quite as high? Deep breaths. It's only women's basketball and you're only a "fan." No money on the line. Not life and death.

To the "NUT" job: I could care less if you are a coach or even a Miss Texas. Once a pig, always a PIG no matter how much lipstick you put on.
