fry's electronics

Actually in the "now and present" Home Depot and Lowe's will take back items without a receipt...but they usually want a bar code to scan and once again will only issue store credit...and they won't take it if it says ACE HARDWARE on the price tag.

I love Fry's.

I have had to return a couple of things and only had one bad experience.

I had bought a MB and processor combo. The board fried after about ten months.

The MB maker's website said the board had a one-year warranty and to simply return it to the store where I bought it.

The Fry's receipt said they offered a 30-day warranty, but the price tag on the box said they honored the full manufacturer's warranty.

They pointed to the receipt. I pointed to the sticker on the box and the website. I told them that the plainly visible sticker too precedence over the back of the receipt which I didn't get until after they had my money.

I eventually won that battle, but it took two trips and a few phone calls. Of course, a year old MB was not going to be in stock, and I had already replaced it anyway, but I took the store credit.

I still love Fry's.

Lowes has a very nifty policy. If you choose, you can give them a phone number at time of purchase. Then, you don't need a receipt for refund. They just look up the purchase by the number.

I don't know, I've been to lots of places where it's just hard to find an employee to help you with stuff.

It's easy to find someone at Fry's, but the chances are almost 100% that that someone is either a total slacker who's going to try and avoid you if he sees you coming, or else will have no clue where the item is much less know anything about it.

when I was in school my car was a piece of **** that had a problem in the charging system that made it eat batteries.

I returned a battery to Wal Mart under warranty every month or so for a year.

Now THAT was unethical. I should have fixed the car. Young, stupid, college kid more worried about beer money than auto maintenance.

I still find things in my garage I have never used or used once or twice. As long as it still has a bar code, I will take them to Home Depot or Lowe's for store credit. I figure if I'm not going to use it, maybe someone else will and I will get something I actually WILL use. In fact, I have the cargo carrier for the Bose iPod boom box thing my wife bought me 3 years ago whcih I have never even taken out of the box. I was at Target last week and saw one there. I will take it back and see if I can't get the $39.99 store credit. It's still in the box, so there shouldn't be a problem.

I understand that the majority of the posters don't think like this but people steal crap from retail stores and return them. For example, swipe small expensive items then get a store credit and get something you can use or something you can trade for whatever you want on the street. Because of this you have to be carefull as a retailer.
