I was wondering how Tech was doing on the road. Seems like they have yet to win a road game in the Big 12. They have lost by an average 19 pts with losses to Mizzou (9 pts) and ISU (8 pts) bringing that down. The Horns, meanwhile, are not exactly lighting it up at home, going 4-3 so far in the Big 12. Two of the losses have been by at least 15 pts (A &M and OU) while only the Mizzou game was a laugher as the Horns won by 30.
It’s quite likely that it will be a close game based on the Horns past performance but Tech’s road woes argue for a blowout win by the Horns.
Seals burned the Horns in the first game with 27 pts on 11-16 FGs and 5-9 FTs to go with 14 rebs. On the Lady Raider board, there has been discussion of her disappearing on the road. She has been up and down on the road with her last two an example of this. Against A & M, she was 5-8 from the field and 8-11 on FTs for 18 pts and had 8 rebs. In the Lady Raiders last road game, Seals made only 1 of 10 FGs but hit 7-10 FTs for 9 pts to go with 9 rebs. The Horns will have to play better defense inside than they did in the last game against Tech. Tech averages 20 TOs a game while the Horns force 20. The Horns forced 26 in the first game but allowed Tech to hit 49% of their FGs and put them on the line 25 times. Tech made 15 FTs.
Texas will need their improved defense to win this final home game. One can’t figure that the Horns will hit over 40% (they are averaging 37%) so the D will be key. If they can force Tech into shooting around the same % as them, they should be able to pull this one out. They will have to be aggressive and get to the FT line while playing smart D and not fouling.
Last home game this season. Hopefully, we will be following the team as they go into the NCAAs. But a WNIT bid is certain should they not make the NCAA cut. Ebay and her parents will be honored at this game. She is the lone senior player on the team.
Usually, we see a crowd of Lady Raiders fans for this game. With the season Tech is having (a disappointment to many Tech fans, it seems) I wonder how many will be in Austin. To those that make the trip, have a safe trip here and home. Same wishes for those Horn fans that travel to the home games from out of town. See you all at the game one last time this season.
