Well, that worked out well. Oui Oui, mon frere (or something).

Loved watching their anchor huffing like a perch on a dock at the end . . .

What a great race. France just falls short again, this can be said for all of France's history. Always a bridesmaid never a bride.

Way to go USA!

They were talking **** too

That has to be the greatest relay race I have EVER seen. E-V-E-R.

Redemption for Jason Lezak. I've always thought he'd been kind of a disappointing anchor the last two Olympiads, but WOW!!! Even Rowdy Gaines had written the team off just before the final turn.

FTF. I also thought it was funny when second leg (and LONGHORN) Garrett Weber-Gale said in the post-race interview that "the Frenchies" were talking.

One of the best sports moments, ever. Swimming doesn't get to be the king sport very often. Five teams under the WR. Phelps with the American record on the lead. The Aussie under the WR on the leadoff. Best 100 split ever, coming from behind to beat the current WR holder. The Phelps medals story. Over the top amazing.

DEFINITELY, one of my favorite pictures of these Olympics. Would rank near the all-time mark if it didn't have Frenchies in tights. Unbelievable race!!

The first week is always swimming and gymnastics and the second week is always Track & Field and "Tournament Finals"- Boxing & Now Tennis, Soccer, Softball...

For me SWIMMING was always "Week 1". No judges, no 73 lbs pixies. No crying little girls or watching American men botch the pommel-horse...

SWIMMING >>>>>>>>>>>>> gymnastics

I sat through three hours of synchronized diving and 12 year olds tumbling, but that was a hell of a swimming relay race.
All the announcers called it the best realy race ever.
Sweden breaks the world record and comes in fifth? Amazing. It did not appear the U.S. led until two feet or less remained in the event.

Mr. 1990 and I were jumping up and down and screaming like fools--as if they could hear us.

It was simply incredible.

I also loved Phelp's reaction when he looked on the board to see his relay win by .08 of a second. You could see every muscle about to rip out of his body. He's certainly on track to win 8 golds!!

By the way, I can't wach the replay because NBC only has broadcast rights for the USA. So their internet video doesn't work outside of

.

And the Argentina broadcast company doesn't carry video. Yeah.

Regarding the "greatest relay of all time" comments on yesterday's broadcast; another which at least deserves mention is the women's 4x100 medley relay at the 1972 Olympics. East Germany was the powerhouse at the time - later revealed to be due to systematic doping which the swimmers weren't even aware of and which caused long term health problems in many cases. The East Germans were overwhelming favorites. As I recall, the Americans established the slimmest of leads after the backstroke leg and basically maintained that lead at the end of each leg, finally touching home just head of the East Germans. Not the come from behind victory of last night, but a much bigger upset.

I know its the standard in swimming and track relays, but I think the 4 participants should have to race in the prelims if they want to be in the finals. And I realize that the "B" team also receives the gold medals but it should be the same 4. And if one of the 4 is injured or whatever, then the team shouldn't race.

Rant over

Forgot which one it was ...but one of our guys had a great quote after the race. "I heard the Frenchies were talking stuff."

First of all...called them frenchies...which is hilarious. And 'talking stuff' just summed it up nicely.
