Frank Erwin Center Crowd

I watch all the games with the Craig Way call on my XM. I just line it up with the TV. So Im not sure if it was just my radio or not, but the crowd seemed dead.

I know the F.E.C is a morgue. But seriously?

The only time I heard people get excited is when we were up by 10. No one made a single ounce of noise when it was close. Or when UCLA had the ball for that matter.

Can we please take the old farts out of the gym and get students in their seats??? For having such a great basketball program and coach, we have one of the worst home enviorments in College Basketball.

Who in the hell is scared of the noise in the Erwin Center?

Another "fan" who sits at home and complains about noise and support. The students show up for 3-4 games a year. Taking seats from us old farts wont help the support against the lower level teams, it will just result in the same empty seats.

As many of you know, my dad was the SID at Texas when i was growing up, so I have been to hundreds of UT games at the Erwin Center, and I'm here to tell you, that is the loudest I have ever heard it. EVER. I came home and watched it on my DVR and the sound guy for ESPN obviously was lowering the crowd noise so that you could hear Jay Bilas. Trust me, down the stretch, when UCLA had the ball, it was deafening. I've been there for virtually every big game the last 16 or more years and I have never ever ever heard the crowd that loud. We kicked it up a notch during that long stretch down the end there when UCLA had possesion forever. Trust me, TV did nothing to show how loud it really was.

For example, if you watch on TV when Damion James gets elbowed you can hear the crowd reaction on tv from when the crowd saw the replay. Well, the sound on TV was NOTHING compared to how loud it really was. That was what let me know that the TV would do us no justicr. Trust me, it was loud as ****. I have some videos from my phone that illustrate how loud it was but there's no way for me to get them posted, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

First of all, it was VERY loud in the Erwin Center.

Secondly, you are going to one day be one of the "old farts" that get maligned by the "young farts" and hopefully you will go to every single game just as all the "old farts" around me do.
The crowd was very much into the game Thursday night and it was awesome!

Yep. Stop complaining about what you perceived to be poor crowd noise over the XM. Us old farts did just fine, and the young whippersnappers were really into the game too.

If you want to even have an inch of wiggle room to *****, then get off your lazy *** and show up at the game. And that applies even if you live way the hell out of town or out of Texas.

I was there. The crowd was involved and loud. Yeah, UCLA took us out if it for their run, but that would have happened at any arena. We got ice cold and they got on a run. But, when were fighting for the lead again,it was really loud.

I just don't get people who complain about the crowd who WEREN'T EVEN AT THE GAME to actually hear live.

And seriously. I was a major part of the debate on the thread that got locked on the football board about crowd noise at football games, and while I never once complained about the lack of noise, I got in a huge argument with several people about not being able to make a game, which, if you remember the thread, you remember, I'm poor, have little to no money, live in another town, hard to make it to games, etc... But seriously, it's $10 for a ticket to UT bball game, which is nothing to get to see the UT men's team, one of the top programs in America since Rick has been here, playing against a top 10 opponent who has made 3 straight Final 4's. It was loud as ****, and if you weren't there you shouldn't comment.

I agree it was a good crowd, but I don't think it was anywhere near the best in the last 15 years. I think the Strollin' Nolan game was louder, as was the Iowa State game when Marcus Fizer was a senior (I think). And probably a couple of Kansas games. That place and actually get really loud when its full and people are into the game. But Thur. was a very good crowd.

Holy **** I was wrong.

I apologize. But for some reason it just didnt seem too intense to me. I guess the mic for craig's call wasnt turned up...

And I would love to go. Wanna give me your ticket for Villanova next week?

The Villanova game is at Madison Square Garden in NY. Us old farts wont have tickets to that one, so I'm sure there will be plenty of crowd noise. Get a clue.

Does anybody know if the acoustics of the Frank Erwin center has anything to do with the crowd sounding quiet most of the time.

Although the crowd sounded pretty good yesterday?

I don't know too much abot the acoustics at the FEC, but I do know that 11-12,000 at Cameron Indoor sounds much louder than 14-16,000 at the FEC due to the FEC being a "special events arena" and not a true basketball gym like Cameron Indoor. Cameron is built more "up", while the FEC is built more "out", so to speak.

seriously... I said this on the football board earlier this year.

You are not allowed to complain about crowd noise if you were not at the game, period.

shut up, go away. Now.

It was pretty loud when I went to the Villanova game a few years ago. I believe Rick Barnes said it was the loudest he heard the center. I hope that has changed though.

The acoustics aren't great for basketball, and never will be, but I've heard echoes of sounds bouncing off the other side.

My daughter was there and was impressed that just about all the seats were filled.

They must really muffle the sound on ESPN because I was curious as well. I've been to a couple of games already this year, but not the UCLA game. I was especially curious during the last 2 minutes and the ref calls seemed to be going UCLA's way. I was expecting to hear a lot of booing, but there was very little sound on the TV.

IMO, that's a lame job of working the sound for ESPN.

Like I said.

I was wrong.

Internet Tough Guys: Let the insults continue to rain down upon me. I can take it, im a big boy.

Not everyone can afford to go to the games so lighten up.

Where the hell are these $10 tickets you speak of. The cheapest I have seen are $15 and they are so far up in the nosebleed you are better off watching on television.

I too was listening to Craig while watching and I thought it was a fairly ordinanry sounding crowd. Must be the mix but I saw a lot of people behind the scoring table just sitting there during key points in the game and wondered why they were not into it.

I dont ever complain about the crowd, and I think everyone in Austin should be at every game...

BUT, I mean come on.....not everyone is lucky enough to live in Austin
