France is not Texas

Francaise des Jeux manager Marc Madiot mocked any concerns Armstrong might have, and took a dig at the rider's home state of Texas.

"You can tell him simply that France isn't Texas. We're not in the Far West in France," Madiot said.

Whew! I'm glad he cleared THAT up. I was confused.

if there is an opposite of france, it's texas. so, he's right.

I'm betting someone could make good money selling T-shirts to Texans that say "France is not Texas". Funny he thinks that's an insult to us.

That's funny. I bought a shirt in Austin last time I was there on business. It said, "Texas. It's bigger than France." Maybe he saw it.

We like to bathe in Texas, instead of covering up our stench with cheap cologne and the reek of unfiltered Gauloises.

France isn't Texas! Well I should say not. Unlike them, we don't need anyone to come and bail us out of a war. We win 'em on our own.

When was the last time Texas won a war without help? Never.

One of the reasons we joined the US was to get the army to fight the INdians for us because we couldn't keep them at bay.

And don't say the revolt against Mexico: Houston's army was laced with "deserters" from the US Army posts in Louisiana and the Mexicans were divided and asleep.

French food is actually better than the stuff at the Dairy Queen and their wines compare favorably with the stuff from here. Their beer is not as good as the Germans' but is a lot better than the watered down horse piss we drink.

They dress better than we do, eat more nutritious food (none of the obesity that is pandemic among us long tall Texans) and their medical care is better.

They pick up their own trash and their dogs don[t attack anything that roams through the neighborhood.

Their president is a mature intelligent man who speaks better English than our president or governor. And his wife sings better than Mrs. Perry.

ONe thing they do have in common with us: they whine when their sports stars finish second.

"Their dogs don't roam through neighborhoods and attack but their Muslims do."

Are you referencing the 2005 civil unrest in France? Not denying that there were attacks nor advocating the actions of the rioters, but there should be some context to this statement. Prime Minister De Villepin admitted to social discrimination of the immigrant population . France has done a good job of keeping up appearances of social equality (another reason I cannot stand French smugness when it comes to our racial issues in the U.S.).

Rioting isn't reserved for Muslims either in France (see 2006 youth labor protest).

This shirt pretty much sums up my thoughts on this subject.

This is in Sturgis, so before you say it, the answer is no, I do NOT come to the ROT rally.

Architectually, I'm gonna go with Spain. Itally had really good food, but man, I'll be honest with you. In France, I couldn't find a chef who could **** up anything. The people for the most part sucked, but the food was arguably some of the best I'd ever tasted.

France still sucks though.

Paris is like any other big city-- lots of people, so lots of a-holes. Same thing in New York or London.

People in the provinces in France were really nice and loved practicing their English with me. I did the best I could trying to speak French with them as well, but their English was certainly much better than my French.

The food in France is incredible. Food in Italy is great too. The French make the best wine on the planet IMO. But their beer is terrible, the only drinkable beers in France are imported fom Belgium and Germany. Thank goodness Belgium and Germany are two of the top beer-making countries in the world.

I lived and worked there and found the people to be great for the most part, but of course there were some who simply didn't like Americans, in much the same way there are people in this country and on this thread who don't like the French. That's the way it goes I suppose.
