Formula 1 racing to Austin?

No kidding mandingo. I usually record practice and qualifying anyway, because it's a great way to get caught up on the general F1 buzz that we miss being over here in the USA. When I was working in Europe, you could get racing news on pretty much every channel (in fact, it was because of Europeans love for racing that I first got into NASCAR while working in Europe, because Sky Sports aired the Sunday Winston Cup races every Monday night). They love ALL racing over there, and they'll race just about any type of vehicle on just about any type of course. It's crazy!

But anyway, practice and qualifying are the best way to catch up on the general news, but this week you just KNOW they're going to be talking extensively about Austin. I can't wait!

A couple things... the route has to be pre-planned for the committee to even consider a city. Anyone seen the track? The whole point is for it to be extra curvy with a straight away at the end, about a mile long. Typically the route winds through a city-- they don't need a wide track. They basically need a curvy path, a long-ish straight away at the end, and a big chunk of land to set up the shops/garages/trailers.

Second-- it's a 5-7 day event. Expect SXSW proportions. I think this is great!

Actually, SXSW will hope for F1 proportions if they are lucky. The money coming to town will dwarf that of SXSW as these people are loaded. There won't be the need of people putting drivers and their crews up in their houses and people jamming into hotel rooms and packing lunches. They won't be relying on or hoping for free showcases to get food and munchies.

It's HUGE. The female talent will be outrageous. More than usual and Austin has pretty good talent. No need to settle in this town if you are a male fo' sho'!

That guy who sells expensive Bourbon may be on to something as the market to buy it will be in town.

In case this hasn't been done already...for those of you who'd like to get caught up on the current F1 season and this weekend's Turkish GP, come on over to Other Sports and the F1 2010 Season Thread. Lots of good info about the season from a lot of good posters over there.
