Forged Irons??

i carry a 1-iron and can hit it just as consistently as my 3 and 4 irons....but then again it's an x-12 1-iron, so i guess i lose some points there

I used to carry a 1 iron and hit it pretty well, but I decided my score improved by replacing it with another wedge.

well i've already got 4 wedges

, but i wholeheartedly agree that if you don't have 3-4 wedges in your bag then you need to get rid of some long clubs and get more. nothing will improve scoring like your game from 100 yds and in.

and no, i don't play with 20 clubs...

i actually feel rage in my heart when i see someone nailing a 1 or 2 iron on the course. pure, unadulturated jealous rage. it's a curious emotion really.

"For the record" I'm ALWAYS 100% right, internet or not. And, though I am certainly ugly, my buttons are far from depressed.

Make sense?

Okay, so I ended up getting some Ping Eye 2 irons today. Forget those freaking forged pieces of crap

. I went to the range and hit them really well, too.

So disappointing to hear you went w/ the Ping Eye 2s. I've played golf inconsistently for 10 years now. I've had about 10 different sets of clubs and will never play cast irons again. Once I got good enough, I played the Mizuno MP33s and was convinced they were the best feeling clubs out there. But I did lose some forgiveness so I went with the Ping Eye 3 ("blade" - even though it's a cast Cavity Back). Performance was no better than the mizunos except on the 2 and 3 iron, but lost all the feel in the world.

I now hit the Mizuno MP30s and are very pleased with them. Mizuno makes the finest forged irons. If you like aesthetics and feel (sweet spot feels truly are much better - as low a handicap as you are, you should be a decent ball striker - it's time to upgrade). By the way, my top 3 lowest scores were always with Mizuno forged irons, never with the cast pings or any other casts at that.

Whether you get cavity or blades, GET FORGED!!!

Anyone play Lynx Parallax Tour irons? I play them. Solid irons for little dinero. They're forged muscle backs. Offset irons, when I owned them, really fell short on distance. I've never been happier since purchasing forged irons. The newer Lynx line aren't as appealing as the old though. If I ever get back out to purchase some new irons, I'll seriously consider the Mizuno MP-37's or MP-33's. I've hit them both and really liked the feel. I guess as your game improves, so will your choices in feel for a club. I played Zing-2's for the longest time and got rid of them because of the ballooning affect when playing in windy conditions. Ball flight is too hard to control with the Zing's. I've found this to be true with most offset iron sets though. Demo, demo, demo is all I can really say when it comes to buying a set of clubs regardless of where you fall on the hack-o-meter.

There was one point in my life where I could hit this old Ben Hogan Apex 2-iron (made in the 1980s) fairly well off of the tee. That point is long gone.
