Food

Got to spend some time with son in law this week who is long time in food business. He said his info expects no relief in pricing pressures through 23.

Pres. Biden warns that food shortages are “going to be real,” saying the U.S. is working with European partners to end trade limitations on sending food abroad to help alleviate supply issues caused by Russian sanctions.

There are videos of food lines, aka 1980's Moscow, in Brooklyn. What about American's Joe? You are not President of Earth. Stacey Abrams apparently has that job. Stacey Abrams, in 'Star Trek: Discovery' cameo, plays president of Earth - Washington Times

Food rationing. Show your card. If you haven’t exceeded your weekly carbon allowance, and you aren’t a domestic terrorist (watch what you say) you may receive an allotment of food. Crickets and synthetic meat are the ESG way to go. Let’s hop on board, save the planet, and keep democracy and freedom thriving.

"Soylent Green is People!" If anyone remembers that movie.

Lionel Zinsou Former President of Benin

“Now we all only hear about this crisis, anti-Russian sanctions, oil, gas… Do you understand what this crisis means, for example, for Africa? Russia supplies us with grain and corn. All logistics go through the Black Sea. And the African world froze in horror from what was happening. Terrified by the actions of the US and the European Union.

You don't buy Africans with stories about democracy. These are only your fairy tales for internal consumption. The majority of the African elite was formed in the Soviet Union - doctors, engineers, pilots, teachers, scientists. The Russians were the only Europeans who decolonized Africa. And Africa remembers it. Just as Africa remembers European atrocities.

If you notice, African countries did not support the UN resolution condemning Russia. And they will never support any resolutions against Russia. This is hardwired into the backbone of every African: Russia is good, no matter what you think about it. This is a constant.

All of Africa is watching the Central African Republic and Mali. What the Europeans could not do for decades, the Russians did in a year. In place of the Central African Republic there were gangs, today there is a real state there.
I know that there are diplomats and employees of the Foreign Ministry in the hall. I appeal to you, to French diplomacy: look for a solution to your problem, as soon as possible, because if the conflict does not end in a month, Africa will break out.

It is for you that energy problems are at the forefront. In the worst case, you will have less heat and fewer cars, and we will have a hunger problem in Africa! Hear me, the crisis in Africa will entail the destruction of Europe.

Come to your senses, look for diplomatic solutions. And don't forget that countries like India and China support Russia. Africa supports Russia.

I do not want to talk about democracy, and you will not pity me, an African, with stories about the unfortunate Ukraine and calls for humanity. Your democracy is your business. There is no need to impose on us your ideas about how we, Africans, should live.

Again! Look for compromises, let the diplomats work. Time is against us. We have 30 days! Thirty! No more!"

In Africa, they are really worried, since the expected famine will hit African countries first of all.

The Soviet Union was the 2nd most murderous nation in modern history--exceeded only by Red China. They were most definitely not a force for good for Africa, or anywhere else. The hope was, after Russia denounced Communism, they would join the regular nations of the world and steer clear from further authoritarianism. Looks like that was wishful thinking...

You're right, but the Soviet Union was supportive of nationalist and decolonization movements in Africa during the Cold War because they weakened Western European empires and of course gave the USSR openings to expand its own influence. It doesn't surprise me that significant numbers of Africans are supportive of Russia because of this, even if it's a stupid reason.

Yeah—trade British and French rule for Soviet rule…. How could things get any worse…? By the way, Africans are coming to hate the Red Chinese far worse than they hated the British or French (maybe even the Portuguese—but that’s a close one…).

Jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

I guess this goes here. My wife and I went to FOUR restaurants on Sunday afternoon in the Austin area looking for draft beers. Here's what happened.

Place 1) Seemed to have draft beers on tap, but all workers were under 21 so they could not be served.
Place 2) Had zero kegs in stock for their system. No draft beers.
Place 3) Was in the middle of replacing the draft beer system. No draft beers.
Place 4) Only had flat Shiner. Effectively no draft beers.

A worker shortage explains Place 1. Is there a keg shortage!?!

Try this place. I know the main owner's wife. They're good people, and their beer is excellent.

If I name drop "Mr. Deez," will the main owner and / or his wife recognize?

Also, I sure hope a brewery has functioning kegs! We were walking around Hill Country Galleria looking for some drinks.
