Five Reasons Texas Wins

Here They Are
A. OU lost Four Offensive lineman to the NFL. That's means Four Newbies, BUT their Right And Left Tackles
are injured. So Two Newbies will be filling in for them. Did you hear that Roach, Graham, Bimage et all?
B. Kyler Murray with his elusive moves and elite speed won't be there to contend with. Yes Hurts can run, but nothing like Kyler.
C. The starting kicker for OU is gone. Will have to trust the backup. Hmm, how many games are lost and won by special teams. We have "Dicker the Kicker"! Need I say more?
D. OU has a false impression of a weak Texas secondary. They will probably throw early and often. Cook, Jamison, Boyce and Watson will be ready.
E. Last year the secondary had to defend TWO elite wide receivers. Hollywood is gone, Cee Dee will be the ONE.
Bring on the game, and if we win, we will swap #11 for # 6 or better

Hope you’re right. I do like our chances. To me it’s almost exclusively on the D and how creative Orlando will be with his schemes.

One subscription site went into detail about how we must confuse and defeat their tackles, put them on islands...and if we do, considerable disruption will follow.

Unfortunately not. If Texas wins they will move up to 8 or 9 with ou ranked right above Texas. If ou wins and the 4 in front of them all win, ou will remain 5 while Texas with 2 losses will drop to 15 or so (despite the losses being to #'s 5 and 6).

Texas is ranked 126 out of 130 in Passing Defense. Not sure this is a false impression. Sounds like reality.
Look at which teams OU and Texas has played. Also, Herman gave up a lot of garbage yards to get freshmen DB and LB some playing time experience at the end of some games. The young DB have benefited from that. Last week on one drive Watson had the ball laid over him twice for a completed first down and a touchdown. I bet that does not happen again.

I don't think it's a false impression. WVU came out throwing on what.... their first 8-9 plays of the game? Everyone knows we're injured and that's our weak link. I want Texas to win every game they play but I'm also not a sunshine pumper. Oklahoma has taken two transfer quarterbacks and made them back to back Heisman winners. Now they have Hurts. We can score on any team in the country with our offense but Orlando is going to earn his paycheck on Saturday.

If we can run the ball effectively we should win.

I'm not talking about slowing down the game and grinding clock, but making them have to respect the run all game long and get favorable down and distances from the running game.

If we can do that we can outscore them.

We win by:
1) BENDING BUT NOT BREAKING
and
2) by getting Hurts in our clutches and knocking his a-s DOWN. Their offensive line is wounded. Our D line is tough. Coburn, Graham and Roach are going to raise Holy Hell in the middle;
and Ossai is simply going to blow the sh-t out of everything with crimson on it.

Hmmm, I’m thinking we’d move up to 7-8 with ousux right behind us. Kinda depends on how bad of a whoopin’ we put on ‘em.

I suspect an OU fan might be able to come up with an even longer list of plausible reasons why his/her team wins. ;)

This is a very deceptive stat. Not to say that our passing D has been stellar or even good but one has to factor in who we have played through five games. Further, there has been a conscious effort to control the run. And it’s working.

We’re 4-1 and we gave LSU — a team returning 16 starters — all they could handle.

We’re young but growing up fast and I expect for our pass D to steadily improve. But if we win and hold explosive offensives below their scoring averages, I’m not sure that I care that much.

Reason 6. We are wearing Orange. Our record (1960 and on) against OU when we wear Orange is much better than when we wear White.

Breaking up your points...

This isn't a good excuse when we're about to play a team that is good at passing, and a high powered offense overall.
Further, there has been a conscious effort to control the run. And it’s working.
This is a valid point. The difficulty is the backs have to keep the receivers in front of them. i think that might be difficult tomorrow.

I'll do the pouty baby response as to why this is gloom and doom (and this might jinx it and then hopefully we'd win)

A. We haven't gotten much pass rush out of any of those guys. They've been serviceable at stopping the run. It sure as hell hasn't slowed OU's offense down by having new OL guys. They put up 55 on Tech, who, by the way, has a better scoring defense than we do right now.

B. This seems like misplaced criticism of Hurts, who, before the 2018 national championship game, was basically turning into a Heisman candidate until Auburn smacked them. Plus, with OU's improved running backs and receivers compared to what Murray was dealing with, I don't think they'd need Hurts to run as fast as Murray. Murray basically had one good run against us on a broken play. They didn't need it to keep close.

C. This is assuming the game will be close enough to come down to a kicker.

D. Our secondary isn't of the "bend but don't break" variety right now. It's bending and breaking. OK State and WVU had more chances to hurt us than they actually came away with on the defensive backfield, and that was due more to their errors (playcalling and execution from Kendall) than it was from our secondary actually playing well. We're going up against arguably the most feared passing game in the country, not some team ranked about #53.

E. You haven't been watching OU games this year if you think that they've had a drop in the receiving game. If anything, they're better. Not in speed, but in execution.

Right. We could give up a lot of passing yards but if we still manage to limit opponent scoring and win, mission accomplished.

Yep.
I remember a game where Adrian Peterson put up seemingly close to 200 yards rushing between the 20s but never crossed the goal line.
We won the game.
