Fire Shaka!

But we seem to have Coach (insert current Coach) who are able to beat a North Carolina team, no matter their (or our) ranking--what gives?? Congrats btw :hookem:

Allow me to explain. Strong goes 6-7, 5-7 and some suggest a head coaching change might be in order.

Shaka's start is a loss in China, then a patsy win, then a Bahamian loss to aggy, and some posters make comments that Horns BB is struggling a bit.

See the logical comparison?

Uh, me neither.

OTOH, if the Horns BB team goes 12-20, rhen 8-25, then, yeah fire Shaka.

Got it???????

No, they were saying we had the wrong coach, that we'd made a mistake, that this team would never go anywhere, had no chance to make the tournament, etc...

The connection with Strong is really weird, although it's the same people who are complaining in both instances. I have no issue with someone complaining about the football season. But those same people deciding after six games what this team was going to be on the hoops side shows the typical example of a Texas football fan that doesn't have a clue about basketball.

I believe that's what he was alluding to.

I seem to recall that Texas can't rebound. They can't shoot jump shots. Felix and Lammert should never play. That they should only be allowed to wash jock straps. Texas can't play defense.

So now all we have to look forward to is the brutal Big 12 schedule, where we are sure to be below the .500 mark.

Did I miss anything, I would ask the posters that raised these questions, but they are conspiculously absent from this forum lately.

One game does not make a season make. Look at the OU and Baylor games in football.

I like Smart and want him to succeed, so don't get this from this post that I think we got the wrong coach, I was not one of the negative posters on our hoops coach.

I guess we can live through our volleyball team and women's basketball team since our football and men's basketball suck.

We can't rebound...Gonna get pounded in conference play.

How Lammert or Felix ever see the floor, especially with the new kids on the team I will never know, those two are the biggest defensive liabilities in the world. Lammert still has not learned how to get a rebound, you have to be watching for this next time they play, he jumps for the rebound before it hits the rim, hence he is on the way down while the other player is on the way up and appears to over-power Lammert every fricking time!!!!!

Lammert is worse and I never thought I would say this than Boddicker.

Felix, he is just horrible 80% of the time.
Chaos will be at Belmont after we realize our two major men's programs are lead by mediocre coaches after they fired two of the best coaches we ever had.....LOL
Actually its WAY too early to make a judgement on B Ball, but man..... I really expected a much better showing against a bunch of Freshmen.

Middle school girls play better than this.....missed lay ups, missed power ups, turn overs.......Chriiiiist !!!!!

Wow, looks like we hired the wrong football coach AND the wrong basketball coach. Gonna be not so fun when Texas fans get to watch a football and basketball postseason without any Longhorn representation

What are the odds of a major university replacing/firing their athletics director, mens basketball coach ,and football coach in a little over a year span and hire three guys who are worse ??
Only at Texas....What starts here changes the world !!

Here is a nice sample of the insipid crap the OP is making fun of.

OK, got it. I guess I just tune out posts on both extremes after a line or two.

Although I wasn't one of the early detractors of either coach, my view of Strong's long-term ability to win at the level he himself states as expectrd has taken a huge hit as a result of the first and most important metric --- W/L over his tenure here.

Certainly, 6 games into a 1st BB season is premature and I have never posted anything to the contrary re Smart.

Sangre I think that post needs to be bookmarked so anytime any of them say anything about anything, just post that as a response.

Certainly no one's saying (or at least I don't think they are) that this means Texas is now "back". What it means is that they're continuing to make progress, and the ceiling is clearly higher than it seemed to be when the season started. Stanford and UConn are coming up, so let's see how those games go as well. If this team plays at that level for its home games, they're going to be in good shape in conference.

This win showed us what the team can be this season. If they can bring that level of intensity and execution on a regular basis (unlikely, but a specific goal stated by Shaka) then they will make some serious noise in March.

Since I ripped the Horns when they sucked against Washington, it is only right that I praise them when they play their butts off like college players should, and beat a very good team in UNC. THAT IS THE KIND OF PLAY I EXPECTED TO SEE FROM SHAKA"S HORNS FROM THE GET GO !!! Patterson may have made one good hire with this guy.

Shaka Smart is going to show us how you turn a sports program around (unlike, say, our interim head football coach). Like Mack Brown in 1998 (who inherited a 4-7 team and finished 9-3 his first season), Smart is figuring out a way to win with the players he has, got the players to buy into his way of doing things, and will create recruiting momentum in the process.

@Sangre Naranjada sweet post, I guess it's normal to pick up a post from almost a month ago about the first game of the season, when our team did in fact look awful in their opener.

I guess I'll think twice before posting again seeing as it's going to apparently be used as ammunition on this website down the road. Awesome.

Gosh harry, it will be nice if you think twice before posting while you're angry and emotionally compromised. Thanks!

Ditto. Tired of people venting their frustrations here. Yell at the TV first, then come here to have a discussion.

Harry (and others), the point here is that it's ridiculous and unfair to be bashing a new coach implementing a new system in his very first games at his new job. Give him a little time to work before declaring it a mistake.

With or without that NC win, Smart is head and shoulders a superior coach to Strong. It's not even close in several aspects of their positions.

I love this thread. Haters need to be called out.

The crap the bed-wetters were spewing after the international away stretch was pretty careless and adolescent. Research your **** and have at the very least an informed opinion before ripping on something you're utterly clueless about, is all I can say. Class up.

Why on god's green earth are you trying to hijack a basketball thread to push your agenda concerning football. Please stop it.

Haters gonna hate.
Every time we lose (or even win by less than the spread), there are posters who want to fire the head coach, in any sport, and if it's football, the OC and qb must go. If they ever notice defense, they include the DC as well.
A team could be on a 50 game win streak, then lose, and these haters would show up to call for a beheading plus a vivisection.

I love how people try to take the facts out of Lammert and Felix being huge defensive liabilities and then try to say I was saying fire Shaka......Well Felix and Lammert will be additions to the team when they graduate. Play the younger kids get more speed and defense on the court....watching Felix have one good game in four years does nothing for the future of this team, he will be exposed in Big XII play just like he was the past three years.....Lammert can't battle for a rebound if his life was on the line.....those facts are undeniable regardless of the coach......

The scary comparison between Strong and Smart is that they are staying loyal to seniors even though the kids behind them are head and shoulders better......Gary vs. Forman and Lammert and Felix vs. anybody else on the team.....

Lammert is second only to Ridley on the team, in rebounds and has 21 more rebounds than the players, in the third position.

Facts such as these are undeniable, because they are actually documented in the stats for basketball, on texassports.com.
