As bad as the food was in school, I liked the shredded beef and rice. Austin High had a great frito pie.

i loved any dish with mashed taters. chicken nuggets, steakettes, roast and gravy.

i also loved turkey and dressing.

and crispitos.

man i miss school food

Crappy spaghetti (with minimal meat sauce) + crappy slices of "French" bread loaf = greatness.

Must have been some kind of chemical interaction; dunno. Should have been on the periodical table of elements.

Pizza, chicken fried steak. We had an open campus though for the most part, so we could leave for lunch and eat wherever.

The elementary school beef stew was always my favorite, along with a slice of doughball white bread. I hated the carrot/rasin salad.

I loved the enchiladas. I use to ask for 2 and the person ringing me up would always ring up 1 since she couldnt tell the difference. I recently worked at a afterschool workshop and guess what they served for dinner....school cafeteria enchiladas...greatness

I also second the spaguetti...I liked it alot....

The peanut butter and cornflake squares......

Greatness.

I actually have the recipe for these.

I always brought my lunch in elementary and junior high, and then we had off campus lunch for high school. But the rare few times I did eat school food, I didn't mind the tator tots if they were slightly crispy (rather than undercooked/soggy). And pizza is hard to get wrong, even for lunch ladies.

I second the peanut butter/cornflake squares. YUMMY!!! Also, the pizza, enchiladas, spaghetti, and cinnamon rolls were great, too! Oh to be back in elementary.......

I had enchilada wednesdays too. We would always add the beans, rice, salsa and crackers with enchiladas and mix it all up, yummy.
The lunch ladies seemed to get a kick out of the fact that we wanted double orders of enchiladas and would yell "Juan Double" any time someone would ask for seconds.

My middle school and high school cafeteria is unmemorable.

However, at my elementary school, they had homemade chili everyday, which I ate most days, only to defer to the frito pie casserole when they had it.

I don't know if it was crack the lunch ladys put in the Gumbo but it kicked butt...Chicken Rings and Mexican Pizza Wednesdays were good too.

At the Elementary school I went to in Temple, they actually hand made the pizzas. Good, sweet cornmeal crust and very decent cheese and toppings. The steak fingers were awesome too. We would put them in the yeast roll with mashed taters and eat it like a sandwich.

In High School I would get nachos with chili, shredded cheese, liquid cheese, jalepenos, and ranchero sauce. I only did this on cold days during football season so I could have a little hot air to warm my *** in afternoon practices. I used to make my teamates cry.
