I loved the movie Memphis Belle. The first WW2 American bomber in Europe to achieve 25 missions.

The air crews in the 8th Air Force (and others) that flew mostly B-17's from bases in England over the German / Axis targets were incredibly brave and doomed many times.... at least until the P-51's gave them some chance. So many of the crew did not make it past 25 missions like the Memphis Belle.

In 1968 I saw the original Belle plane when my family visited Memphis to see my Grandmother. It was in terrible & neglected shape in some yard of the airport or a park as I remember. Understand she has been fully restored and is someplace dignified where she should be.

When I was a kid in the 60's, I mostly built box Revelle plastic model planes and ships from WW2... that was my hobby. I had 2 tall shelves of them from the P-40 to the carrier Enterprise.

I loved the lore and success of the B-17 so much I built 2 versions of the Memphis Belle - one when I was 9-10 years old and very unskilled and another one when I was 12 or 13 and had more precision and skills with glue and paint. I also built 2 - P-51's & 2 - Chance Vaught F4U Corsair carrier planes. Wish I still had some of them. Think all my old models got sold in a garage sale when I was in college....

The Italian Job (2003 version) with Mark Whalberg. The 1969 version has some great chase scenes as well!
