I'm a Packers fan from back in the Starr days also. Right now I'm in a state of shock. Figured after the season he just had, he'd give it one more year.
Plus, being a 'horn, I hate the thought of rooting for Rodgers now.
Wow. As a 49er fan, it was always a heartbreaking pain to watch him own my team. Through the years, I have nothing but respect for him (besides the Strahan sack incident).
Yeah, I remember Rodgers from that 2004 controversy. as a football fan, I don't think I'll ever be able to wrap my arms around Aaron Rodgers like I could Brett Favre.
I'm a huge Packers fan but honestly, I'm not too disappointed by it. Shocked, yes, but I'm glad to see him leave after one of his best seasons.
Just wish it would have been after another Super Bowl ring. The Packers were the youngest team in the NFL, and while I still harbor some feelings from those idiotic comments from Rodgers back in '04, I'll have to root for him. He came into a great situation and has had a few years to develop. He's got some great WR's to throw to.
How weird will it be to see someone else starting at QB for the green & gold?
As a Packers fan, and Longhorn, I hope the Pack succeed in spite of Rodgers, who I hope sucks totally and is promptly relegated to a career of being recycled throughout the league as a number 2 or 3 QB for the next ten years, while GB finds a suitable replacement for Brett in the 2009 draft. Wishful thinking, I know.
I find it weird that his retirement speech was a voice mail, but considering how he never wanted to be the center of achievement it doesn't surprise me.
This saddens me. I mean I'm happy for the guy. One of the most talented and loved guys to ever play the game. I remember watching this guy when I was a kid. True Legend.
As a Packer fan, I am somewhat sorry to see him go and somewhat thinking, "Ahh, good riddance."
He had a great career and visibly showed more love for the game than just about anyone.
On the other hand, he's old. He's been turning retirement into a circus for years. He absolutely stunk in '06 and '05. He melted down in the Packers' two of the Packers' biggest three games of the year--against the Cowboys and the NFC championship game.
The last umpteen gazillion Packer playoff runs ended with Favre meltdowns--INT in OT against the Giants, 4 INT against the Vikings, INT in OT against the Eagles (Packers managed one FG after the 1st quarter), 2 INT and couldn't covert 2nd and 3 from his own 12 in the first quarter, setting up blocked punt and TD for the Falcons on their way to a 27-7 win in Lambeau, 6 INT against the Rams.
Yuck.
No wonder he said the pressure was getting to him as the Packers continued to win.
Great career, but a lousy last ten years in the playoffs coupled with being bigger than the team itself makes for bad voodoo. Besides, this way John Madden has to quit, too.
