Chris Madrid's Macho

Salt Lick brisket

Country Tavern ribs

Herrera's Dallas salsa

Yoakum packing turkey legs & sausage

Floyd's red snapper and/or redfish

BBQ Inn, Houston chicken fried steak

Anything with a Whataburger or HEB label

Rudy's, Pappas, Landry's, Torchy's and Chili's all originated in TX. And of course Whataburger.

Landry's originated in Breaux Bridge, home of Don Landry, Sr, whose two sons Don, Jr and Floyd would later start Don's.

After Fertitta took control of Landry's, Floyd started his own restaurants in Houston, and they are on my list.

Nothing that belongs to the Landry's Group of restaurants should remind anyone of Texas or be wished on a displaced native of The Great Republic.

I didn't say it was good. They ruined Chart House and the last time I went to a Landry's it was the one there off Shepard in Houston and it was worse than Long John Silvers.

I was just pointing out that Landry's was not originated in Texas. Floyd did start "Floyds" in Houston.

The worst that has ever come out of a Floyd's kitchen is immeasurably better than the best to ever come out of any of Tillman's kitchens.

Landry's now owns Morton's steakhouse. While it has more of a NY atmosphere and vibe, and would not likely remind anyone of Texas, their prime dry-aged steaks are excellent. It's basically on par with the other high end prime dry-aged steakhouses like Capital Grille, Three Forks, etc. Grotto Italian restaurant is also very tasty. I haven't tried Floyd's, but it's now on my list.

I was a Morton's regular for years, so much so that I had my own booth at the Houston, Dallas (downtown), and San Antonio locations. After Fertitta bought it, I made the managers promised to inform me when Tillman's influence was taking over. After they did, I refused to go back, however, have had to go back for business, but definitely on someone else's dime. The three times, the food was not even Ryan's quality, and I would have enjoyed Golden Corral catering the event.

The food was absolute ****, the service indifferent at best, and the prices were as if we were in a real quality steakhouse.

Sorry, not even on your nickle.
