Factcheck.org on the Demo plan to smear McCain

But I thought the MSM wanted Hillary or Omaba to win, right?

If so, this smear plan makes no sense.

unless they play harder hardball, expect McCain to do very, very well in the general. I think McCain has warts, but nothing in that call to arms upset me.

Dean is a shitbag. For all the Dems who decry Rove and would embrace Dean's shitbaggery, I suggest the purchase, rental, or borrowing of a mirror or any reflective device.

I am truly sick of the fact that straw man ******** is the go-to tactic in today's political environment. Folks are already attacking Obama for positions that he doesn't actually have, and obviously Dean is planning on doing the same with McCain.

Here's my rule of thumb -- if you have to engage in an elementary logical fallacy to make your point against an opponent, you lose.

What Dean is doing is absolutely smart, and I appluad him. The fact is is that the Republcans have already started their talking points about Obama. The mantra is "The most liberal Senator out of 100. The most liberal Senator out of 100."

The Democrats cannot let the Republicans define either Obama or HRC(which i am not sure they need to do), unchallenged. The last time that happened John Kerry was a "flip-flopper" before Kerry even began to fight.

That cannot happen again. McCain and his surrogates need to be defending McCain, instead of attacking (and defining) the Democrats.

Dean is doing EXACTLY what he should be doing.

So the politics of "change" is an illusion Fighting Horn?

Macanudo--

You are a smart enough guy to know that there is absolutely no right answer to that question. At the end of the day, the answer to whether somebody is "liberal", "moderate", or "conservative" depends on who is asking the question.

In any event, if pressed, I think the most-left Senator would have to be Russ Feingold.

washpark--

To some extent, it is an illusion, to some it is not. Elections are cage death matches anymore. And if you don't fight that way, you will get your *** kicked, ala, 2000 and 2004. Kill or be killed.

I think what Obama is talking about is more about his style of governance.

In any event, I could care less about "change" per se. I am a trial lawyer, and I cannot afford any more years of Republican rule. In fact, you're on the defense side correct?

Our profession is gettng killed by the Republicans.

And you strike me as the kind of guy that does know the actual context of Shakespeare's "First, let's kill all the lawyers."

Oh well, geez, if the National Journal says so, it MUST be true.

Well, according the FHCRS, Barack Obama is the coolest Senator. So, if the FHCRS says so, he IS the coolest.

If he gets swift boated, let us know. Until then, yawn.
I would think McCain saying it is OK for the Iraq war to go on for 100 years would be quite enough ammo for any Democrat.

Sii,

The GOP could counter that with pictures of the Dem nominee with people like Sharpton and Farrakhan. That will hurt a lot more. Dean is right to go on the offensive, though. Obama is gaining momentum and is a GOP oppo guy's dream opponent.

That picture was McCain being conciliatory to Bush after a nasty campaign. I wouldn't think Obama supporters would have much of a problem with it since Barack talks about reaching out and mending fences.

I don't see why the Democrats need to worry about smearing McCain. Republicans are doing a fine job of that already. No need to pile on.

Many "conservatives" think McCain is "liberal."
That's why , if they do vote for him, they will be holding their noses while they do it.

Maybe the DNC's best strategy would be to play up McCain's liberalism. That might depress the conservative vote enough to ensure a Dem walkover no matter who the Dem nominee is.

"Factcheck.org"....hmmmmmm. From what I've read on that site it seems to be tilted against the dems and towards the Reps. And what really peaked my interest was this:In reply to:

Obama does want a campaign on the issues.

All of the topics discussed in the dean e-mail concern important issues. They were not personal issues.

But the information he cites should be factual and Obama would agree. If some of it was not factual, Dean can rightly be criticised, but I am not convinced yet that any of it was not factual.

The GOP started on Obama right after he wanted to run by sending out emails that he was not a christian and used a Koran instead of a bible in his swearing in which was and is bunk.

That the National Committee is sharpening its knives should not be a surprise. I am cautiously optimistic that if Obama gets the nomination his national campaign staff can put some kind of leash on the attack dogs.

If Hiliary gets the nod, katy bar the door.....
