Horns are 14th in the ESPN/USA Today poll. OU is #2, Baylor # 10, A&M # 12, and OSU # 19. ISU and KSU received votes.

OU at #2...I still don't see it...not for a team that has not advanced past the Sweet 16 since the Paris twins stepped on campus. Maybe this is the year, but only if they have solved their point guard problems and their ability to handle the press.

It is difficult to put any real stock into early season polls. The first poll is simply a beauty contest. The second one isn't much different and seems based as much as anything on whether you blew out the Little Sisters of the Blind and Quadrapalegic in your early tune-ups.

If you look at the total points when the votes are recorded, the middle of the pack is far more bunched this week than they were in the beginning. And considering that we had more points in Week 2 than in Week 1 but still dropped a spot in some of the polls, it tells me that the voters have no real clue who is precisely better than the team above or below them...it is more like pulling names out of a hat, rinse, lather and repeat.

That being said, with some of the games in December on the schedule, we can potentially see some big jumps with good performances. Granted, I would rather see Tennessee not have gotten beat this past week because now they are going to be frothing at the mouth to get their place back at the mantle and you never like playing a team with added incentive to try and spank you...

Very true. I can only imagine what Tennesse was ranked back in 1997 when they lost 10 games before going on to win the national championship. I would like to know what their lowest ranking was that year.
