Eating in College Station...

Heading to College Station on Wednesday for the game. With the late start, we'll be getting there early to eat dinner. I haven't been to College Station in a few years, are there any spots you'd recommend hitting before the game? I know this thread is wide open for jokes, but just looking to grab some grub before the game.

I went to the game last year and am going to the game this year again and we ate at the Dixie Chicken last time and it was good. Sure we got a little **** for being there, but the food was good and you can always eat outside on the table in the front. Id suggest there.

sportswriter, is there any particular type of restaurant/food you are interested in, or are you up for anything?

If you're looking for just something to eat near campus, I remember there is a Pita Pit, Jimmy John's, and Panda Express in a shopping center directly across from the eastern boundry of campus. (I guess its on the "East Gate"?)

We're pretty much up for anything. We'd rather stay away from chains that we can eat anywhere. Dixie Chicken sounds good so far. Been there to drink, but I've never eaten there.

But any other suggestions are welcomed. Just no chains.

Staying away from chains here are my recommendations.

Freebirds is always good. There are 4 locations, one on Northgate might be crowded, so you could go to the one at University and HW 6.

Burger
Koppe Bridge, On Wellborn Road just south of 2818. By far the best Burger in town.

BBQ - C&J's Wellborn & SW Parkway. Get the jalapeno & cheese sausage

Chicken Fingers - Raisin Cane's right accross campus main entrance on Texas Ave.

Sandwich
Blue Baker - University across from the hilton next to the big fountain, there is also a decent habachi/sushi place next to it.

Mexican
Los Cucos (On Texas Ave about a block South of George Bush)

Steakhouse
The Longhorn (down in Bryan)

Pizza
Double Daves (think there is one on Northgate still)

The Chicken is good for beer, but the food is average.

^this guy has a good selection. i'll add laynes to the list. there is a laynes in the same shopping center as the c&j on wellborn.

NotShinola, I'm on board with everything you said except... DoubleDaves???? Come on man, you're better than that!

Come to think of it, there really weren't any particularly good pizza places there when I was there, so DD might actually BE the best.

Just go to Freebirds, Los Cucos or the burger place he mentioned and you'll do fine.

whats the drive thru frozen cocktail place called again? i highly recommend this place.

also, my friends like to frequent la bodega. its probably the best mexican in college station, and its just average, the atmosphere is good though.

Best place in town is Cafe Eccell - near the campus. For gourmet dining, try Christopher's which is a good way from the campus.
