Early 2011-12 pre-season poll

Waaaaay to early to place Texas in the Top 25. I'd rather see the team under the radar and through hard work and even luck earn their placement. This early poll fodder is all conjecture.

And has Kat Nash been signed up in the WNBA overseas? How flattering to see tour prediction turn to ashes.

Its not to early to put them in the top 25. 4 of your starting 5 returning, including your top scorer. A dominant post player returning from injury. And a top 10 recruiting class, I'm actually shocked we were pegged that low. Because we could beat at least 10 of the teams ranked ahead of us.

My exact words were, "I could be wrong but I believe we will eventually see Kat on a WNBA roster." I said that after the draft and I think all Horn fans would like to see her play professionally here in the U.S. So, not really sure what you are cheering about in your post.

IMO a top 10 recruiting class does not immediately give credibility to a team that highly disappointed last year. Cokie returning is good but will she be the same or better before her injury? I don't count my chickens until some hatch. Getting dinged once again in the credibility factor does no good for the program. I suspect the record last year had a role in Peyton reconsidering her pledge. Who wouldn't when you still gave a couple of years to decide.

My point is Texas is once again ranked and don't think it's justified. Name recognition is once again a factor in their inclusion.

I'm sorry if you are unable to deduce the cheering in my post. And no, it wasn't about Kat either.

What team has a top 10 recruiting class that finishes outside of the top 25? Other than the Texas team 5 years ago I cant recall one. It's not name recognition it's being knowledgeable about basketball. It's really hard to get my point across accurately. Cokie wasn't just an injured starter, as coach g pointed out early on the team was built around her. So that's why it was such a huge injury. And the recruiting class fills so many gaps. Anyone who knows basketball would know that a top 25 finish is the least of our expectations

Bu you're putting so much stock hence heavy expectations to a group of heralded freshmen. Thats my problem and until we can see this team play with cohesion, it's a bit premature to label the team Top 25 at the start. As with Coach G building her team around Cokie, and then injury, I attribute this single point if failure on recruiting decisions hence lack of depth!

I'm not arguing that Texas doesn't deserve it's place in the top 25. It does, but at the current point in time, it's not rightfully deserved. It's earned, and name recognition still is benefitting this team.

No team has earned their ranking yet; it's a preseason poll. But it's certainly understandable the Horns would be included near the lower end of the list, and has nothing to do with name recognition. It isn't as if the Horns had a losing season - they finished 19-11 without their starting post, and went 22-11 the year before including two wins over Baylor and Griner with Cokie in the lineup. Given that she will be back next year, that we return four starters, and have a top 10 recruiting class coming in, the placment isn't a surprise at all. Of course it doesn't mean anything, just as many would argue in-season polls don't matter much either.

Ok let me rephrase...

Texas should be a consistent fixture in the Top 25 poll. At this time, Texas doesn't deserve it's early pre-season ranking.

That's what I meant to say.

I think when they put out a Pre - Season Poll. I think they look at
1. How many starters and veterans returning.
2. Incoming Recruiting Class.
3. And for C.Reed who was out for the season.
Am very positive for the team. Once again, if everyone stay healthy. We are going to be good. I will tell you this.C.Reed will be a BEAST next year. She has really been working hard. Watch out for A.Hartung too. We will have a good committee of Inside help. Power and Speed.Overall the team will be quicker! I look forward to seeing Nneka,K.Brewer,R.Majors,B.Sanders along with C.Peoples.Mix them with the veterans on the team, and we should be good. Cant wait to see C.Fussell

I'm glad to see them in the top 25. In the lower part is about right, imo. But, that's just my opinion.

Whether the team is ranked in the preseason ESPN or AP polls to start the season is another matter.

Right now, as someone else mentioned, these preseason will take into account returning starters, players coming back from injuries, and incoming players. Name recognition and the coach's rep is also a factor, imo. Doesn't hurt and at this time, it's just a conversation piece.

Still waiting to hear who you think "deserves" to be ranked in a pre-season Top 25 poll in place of Texas . . .

He was responding to me when he used 'overseas.' Not sure what he meant though as all I'd said after the draft was I thought we would see Kat on an WNBA roster at some point.

It's just pointless sometimes.
I mean, you would think most would be a tad bit happy that our team is receiving some pre-season recognition; not every team does. Players and coaches work hard, and it's great that someone might have noticed. Yes, it's PRE-SEASON. But, I certainly would rather our team be included than not be included.

But, instead, we have some folks here who just want to cross their arms and dig in their heels and sulk that someone with a national perspective thinks our 2011-12 squad may be of Top 25 caliber. Makes me want to give them a pacifier so they can just suck it all day
as they sulk and remain bitter about gawd knows what.

So mature Mooooo.

Credit will be extended by me when deserved. Coach G has only a clothing line (not even searchable on coop website) and a trophy in the Maggie Dixon classic these past 4 years. Let's not go down this trail again!

No one needs your "credit". Coach G doesn't, and neither do the players. With fans like you, our program doesn't need any enemies.

Fans of schools who didn't finish the season ranked in the final poll would be content to be ranked in any pre-season Top 25 poll for the next season; but, there's one in every crowd who is intent on being disgruntled . . .

Your response goes to show that her legacy thus far at Texas is well below expectations. You're delusional if you think Coach G needs my credit. Is she going you a portion of her million dollar salary to defend her? I think not. It is fools like you who rely on the past to predict the Texas' resurrection when the results of the 1st 4 years are a matter of FACT.

If you would channel your energy on supporting the program rather than at me, and stop sitting on a pasture like a cow until your Coach G brings Texas back, you'd be a more happier person.

And I live in Seattle...go figure.

Seattle, im willing to give Coach GG one more year to return us to the elite! I want something like a 28-6 or 25-7 finish or something better. She does get paid well so next year should be a make or break season. If she dosent "make it," then im jumping on your bandwagon and say its time move on!
