Prayers this is the case for the Tyler Rose. He's a living legend and it kills me when he has to be drove around in that cart and be held up by his aides. He is Texas
My all time favorite Longhorn also. So many great memories of running the ball. With all those memories, I think the play that always comes to mind first is Earl blocking a punt against Arky. If I remember rigt it was early in his career and they inserted him in the punt recieving team even though he didnt normally play there.
Its been so long ago that I may have some of the details wrong. I know we have some great Longhorn historians on the board who can tell me if I am remembering something wrong, but what a player!
I think the "game that made him famous" was the Monday night Oilers game vs. Miami. He ran for 199, over, under, around, and through the Dolphins.
There are other awesome moments that help define him, though. When he knocked Bevo over, for example. Or when he crushed the Rams linebacker near the goal line (Jack Reynolds?) and effectively ended his career. Or when he caused an earthquake by hitting Jack Tatum and running over him into the end zone. There are lots of others.
Earl's brother Tim blocked the Colorado punt in the Bluebonnet Bowl.
Earl blocked the punt against Arkansas in 1974, and Doug English recovered for the touchdown. I understand English has kidded Earl about it ever since.
Good luck Earl! I'm sure we all agree that #20 is one of the finest Longhorn athletes ever, and a great role model for the program. I pray this procedure ends his back pain, and would love to see him walking without pain and playing golf with Bum Phillips again. This really looks promising.
