Dying Iraq Vet Writes to Mssrs. Bush and Cheney

BI, I don't agree that doing nothing was a good stance either. You are correct that Iraq under Hussein competed with Iran in some way. I am not sure that they were effective in restraining Iran in ways that made the US more secure. While they didn't work together, they both were/are agents that worked to threaten US interests. Iran didn't start to influence their region for ill (by our perspective) after we took down Hussein. Also, if the US was to allow Iraq to skirt UN sanctions, that would have been a mistake too because it would have set a dangerous precedent to other nations that they don't have to comply with international law. Maybe you can show me where I am wrong though.

Where are the letters on how stupid the Afghanistan surge turned out to be? How does that decision compare to the Iraq decision?

What about Lee's disastrous decision to assault the Union positions at Gettysburg? That should have destroyed Jefferson Davis.

I have no problem with letters supportive or negative towards the war. I am glad we are finally getting out. Meanwhile, we are entering new wars and I see little consternation from so-called progressives and fake libertarians. It turns out the new boss is the same as the old boss but the anger and media coverage has somehow disappeared. It is sad but understandable when you understand that many people care more about their side than the actual issues.

Just out of curiosity, since everyone blames Bush for lying about the WMD, can anyone quote from any person in a knowledgeable position (no, not the Huff Post) who believed and had some evidence to support the idea that there were no WMDs? Maybe the international intels deserve some criticism.

Two thoughts I need to offer.

1. Bush and Cheney had intelligence from the highest levels in that Saddam Hussein himself thought he had weapons of mass destructions. One problem with being a bloodthirsty dictator is no one was willing to tell him the truth -- that the millions he had spent hadn't bought him what he wanted WMDs. People within the Bush Administration wage a fierce campaign against folks with an alternate reading of the signs and in fact, one was jailed briefly related to outing of a CIA agent.

2. This letter is a powerful message about the sacrifices we require of our military. In WWII, our country engaged in war. Since then, our military has gone to war and there has been no eagerness to share the sacrifice. While our soldiers were getting killed in Iraq and Afghanistan we were enjoying tax cuts.

BI, Michtex, Roger35, et al.,

I place the lion's share of the blame for the Iraq War on the Bush Administration - Bush himself, Cheney, and especially the goofy neocons who formulated the Bush foreign policy. They championed the war and were obviously the ringleaders of the entire operation.

However, Congress can't absolve itself of responsibility by simply delegating its judgment to the White House and saying "it's out of our hands." It has an affirmative duty to maintain oversight on all executive branch operations, including war. It authorized the war and appropriated the money to fund it. If Bush truly did break the law or if there was actual evidence that he deceived them in justifying the war, then they had a duty to impeach him. They didn't do a damn thing.

LBJ and Bush may be primarily responsible for their screw-up wars. However, the Congresses that enabled them do not have clean hands.

Not to derail this too far but BO it appears has NEVER been bothered with facts or the truth.
His little folksy stories may impress some but for others once the lies or " history errors" start adding up all of his utterings sound phony.
The Russians liberated Auschwitz and the Germans shut Treblinka down in 1943/
Maybe BO's uncle lied to him. That seems unilkely since his uncle could have truthfully said he heard about how horrible Dachu or any of the ones Americans actually liberated.

One can understand then Bo in 02 not bothering to find out the truth but surely a POTUS candidate should care enough about facts if he is going to present to the people his ' life story"
This is but one easily checked error BO has told of his supposed family history.

sorryto derail but soneome posting what BO said in 02 and seeing once again BO trying to use lies to bolster his position reveals his disregard for the facts.
