And there's this nugget from Smythe's dad as reported in the AAS:
"Smythe had been having second thoughts about his commitment to Texas since this summer, said his father, Roy Smythe.
“I can tell you the season they had this year, and Harsin (leaving), didn’t really have an impact,” the elder Smythe said Wednesday. “I don’t think there was any particular reason. He said if I’m not excited about it, that seems like a problem. Nobody did anything wrong. Mack has been marvelous and Manny (Diaz, his regional recruiter) has been great. Durham just decided he didn’t want to go there.”
If true, sounds like the kid really wanted to go elsewhere (i.e., Stanford).
