DKR Update?

so, for those that weren't there:

two things i noticed about the stadium

1. When the national anthem was being sung, many people(including myself) turned their heads towards the north end because of the massive echo coming from the beast. Some people even got emotional over the possible volume of noise after completion.

2. When the cannon fired everyone in the stadium jumped because of how much louder it seemed to be today.

I can't wait for Arkansas.

The columns that make up the corners of the new end zone look like the type you would find built into an impregnable fortress/castle.

I'm wondering if the expansion was designed with our relatively average crowd noise in mind. I say this because it's probably going to be loud even with 3/4 of the people in the stadium speaking as if they were at a PGA tournament.

Tejano,
that is great to hear.
from the pics it did not seem that there were many fans in the stands. certainly not bama last year. living in houston and having to work, i didnt go myself so i dont have the ability to complain. just wondering how many people were there?

Texassports claims that close to 43K

i'll go with that number, but as with all attendance numbers from bellmont, i think that is exaggerated. Quite a few people, but as you said, nowhere near Bama's 92K last year.

i wish we could convince everyone to do that, but we have enough trouble getting 90K to real games.

To say there were even 20k fans there yesterday is an awful stretch.

But the stadium is going to be freakin' AWESOME when it is finished and packed with 95,000 fans come gameday!

Thanks for the pictures.

I think saying there were 43,000 there is quite a stretch unless more than half were someplace else there waiting in line for autographs.

Let's see...if a stadium holds 85000-90000, almost half of it should have been full if 43,000 were here. Not exactly rocket science.

I guarantee you it will not be quiet. Not only are we adding seats, we are blocking noise in the north endzone, something we never had. The north endzone will trap all the noise.

With the bleachers installed, we will have screaming fans in all directions, close to the field, not 30 yards away.

Make no mistake, it is freaking loud already. National Anthem, Cannon, Jumbo tron - all echoing off the NEZ at incredible volume. Add in 95000 fans with the SEZ bleachers, you will not recognize the stadium.

Godzillliatron vs. NEZ echo - it's a draw

I am not an architect but I imagine that closing the endzone will keep more noise inside.

Hot c, our stadium will definitely be one of the most beautiful stadiums in the nation. I do not think we will have one of the top 5-10 best game day or intimidating atmospheres in America. I think we have to potential to be for sure. Top 20 probably.

Night games usually have better atmospheres just because more people are drunk. I have been to a few games at other stadiums and our fans in the past haven’t been as crazy. We have been pretty good recently, on occasion, but we as fans need to get better and rowdier and more “crunk.” We have the potential to be. Most school have the “rich alumni” that don’t yell much as do we. Fine. The rest of us need to stand most of the game, regardless of the score and cheer.
Also, we need a true student section. Same corner of the closed endzone. I think that is huge. A big thing will be trying to get more games later in the day and not noon, or 2:30 games. Big 12 usually don’t have these TV time slots so it makes it harder. We don’t have the 6:30 pm espn slot that sec teams do. We can still be as loud and as roudy but we have to do that at 2:30 and its harder to get rowdy in the after noon with 95 degree heat. I still think we can do it. We will find out vs R-kansas soon.

I too am very excited about the new stadium. Many good changes since 95 when I first sat there. For those that don’t remember that time, ask someone. It was very different with the track.

Puddle you make a good point about the weather being the reason our fans are so quiet during a game. but try and tell that to a fan in the SEC I.E. LSU, Bama, Auburn, Florida, etc....The night games at those venues are absolutely crazy and the heat index in Austin is no different than any of these places i mentioned.
what is it about Texas that makes our fans so quiet during a game? Was it because the stands were so far away from the action on the field? Or is it because the majority of our fans are too good to stand up and cheer for the team? I hope we see a completely different atmosphere in DKR this year!! For those of you that made it to the spring game; how much of a factor do you all think the new renovations will have on the overall atmosphere of the game i.e. crowd noise fan involvement etc...
