This looks amazing! It's going to be exciting seeing UT play here and the newly renovated and expanded Cotton Bowl.

Quick question, have they started work on the brick "plaza" leading into the new entry way at the NEZ. It's suppose to be covering a section of E 23rd St.

I noticed earlier that the free standing tower on the NW corner (behind the gap) seemed taller than the ones on the east side. From these pictures, it's obvious that it is different than the others. Some things I can understand, like the NW corner gap being there because of sight line issues, but this really throws off the symmetry of the whole thing. I wonder why this one is taller than the others...

All of the turrets connect at the same level - the upper deck concourse, so they go up to the same height. The difference comes from the change in elevation of the ground level. The NE corner is significantly higher than the NW.

If you walk west on 23rd street from San Jacinto you can see and feel what sort of elevation change there is. As a student, I remember making that walk with the old horseshoe and you had a pretty steep climb to get into gate 25, especially towards the end.

I guess they could've handled it differently, but I think the way they chose was the best way... You build with the topography, you don't try to change it.

Think about how weird it would look to just pile dirt to elevate the NW corner to even with the NE and have a random steep hill at the new memorial plaza on 23rd and San Jac?! Either that or excavate and have the ground level at the NE corner be below ground?!

I had not responded to the excellant pics til now. Not many others have either. I hope blym and the others are not offended with the paltry numbers of thanks.

Thanks again.

There must be a "drying-curing time" on brick layers, because I know they can put more bricks up each day than they are.

Come on season opener! Thanks for the update.

These are great pics. I took several photos from the scoreboard end on Saturday, but didn't even think about going around to look at this view. Thanks. It's just beautiful.
