Kind of looks like a tranny.
 
When I was a Sophomore at St. Marks Emily Erwin was a senior at Greenhill and I think she was dating this St. Marks guy named Ben, or at least he was squiring her around because I would see them at parties together.
Anyway, I wasn't shy or intimidated by girls in general, but when that girl walked into a room, it sort of tilted her way, and I would lose the ability to think or speak as the world sort of twisted around her until she left.
In retrospect this was probably a problem for my girlfriend at the time, who was a sophomore at Greenhill.
 
How can you dislike a guy who wrote this?

Yes. Before Maines joined the group, when they were doing private parties and street gigs, she was very hot. They seem to pretty much ignore the time when Robin Lynn Macy and Laura Lynch were the lead singers.
 
Hell, "My Hometown" is better than the best effort by 99% of the songwriters who have ever lived.

Problem was: she married him while he had a chance for a good career and a good record. Since the marriage, his career has gone nowhere and he has released several awful records.
 
True story: after Laura Lynch was asked to leave the Dixie Chicks, she said that for six months she cried everyday. It was said at the time that Laura was planning to take a break to be with her teenage daughter, whom she rarely saw when she was on the road. That was the official reason given for her departure but, really, she was kicked out. But she later married Mac Tull who hit the Texas Lottery for $29 million. So now she does not hold any grudges toward Martie or Emily, still talks to them regularly, and apparently wishes them all the best.
 
It doesn't help that he has been vocal (and vehemently) critical of Nashville his whole career. He made his bed, that's for sure.
