"Link is right, how do link what wasn't happening? You link where it was."

Are you really too naive to believe that this wasn't going on pre-Mubarak-ouster?

stophonourkillings.com details stories of honor killings in Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries going way back before February 11th, 2011. Are you saying that Obama supported Mubarak in spite of these then? Are you saying that GWB or any other President did?

DFWAg,

this is why I believe we don't do as you suggest....53%Obama----43%Romney.

You could argue that GOP and DEMs largely believe the same things and that the differences are minimal and all the vitriole and hyberbole thrown about here in the US are largely for show. I'd actually go along with that.

On the other hand, listening to the stuff that is thrown around on this board sometimes (and by the politicians), this election is about the survival of our country. It goes to the very core of our being.

I believe these other countries are in much the same boat. There is a violent, backward, cancerous mass (but still a minority) that are loud vitriolic, hyperbolic and bent on rage against anything they can blame for their plight. And there is a majority who aren't that. Who would rather exist with the rest of the world without violence (perhaps under sharia law or maybe not).

Just because the democrats are in charge (and they are all socialist as we know) doesn't mean that our country is all of a sudden socialist.

Just because crappy people have the guns and are in charge in Egypt, Syria etc doesn't mean the rest are all crappy too. It just means the crappy people set the rules and pick the winners.

and revolution aint as easy as it once was. The firepower and technology a state has to subdue its citizens gives it a far greater advantage over revolutionaries today than our forefathers had to go up against.

"Most of the bass-akwards Islamic countries have legislation on the books addressing honor killings. What is really surprising is the conversation in Western Advanced societies that attempts to justify or water down the concept of honor killings." ~ DFWAgsy

What does this mean? You said most Islamic countries have legislation on the books "addressing" honor killings. Addressing how? Are you saying that "most" Islamic countries authorize or recognize honor killings as punishment? Please provide a list of Islamic countries that have so "legislated" honor killings. You said most do. There are like 50+ Islamic countries - just give me 15 that have so legislated honor killings.

I think Hookem123 may be 13-0 BrandingIron. The writing "style." if such term applies, is weirdly reminiscent of Brandy. I learn slowly, but I have learned that these threads are not the place to find reasoned discussion. I will continue to cheerfully disagree with the likes of NEWDOC, Mr. Deez, and DFWAg and a number of others, but honestly this board has deteriorated over the past two years. A handful, who seem to have great fun making real, useful debate impossible, have almost ruined it, and replaced useful debate with....something else. Perhaps Roma Victa's invocation of excremental comparison is pretty close to accurate. I wish I know what to do about it. I fear that the days of mostly reasonable discussions, with a few crackpots on the left and the right, are gone. Its a shame. Or maybe my memory of those days is distorted by the passage of time. Maybe there never was a "good old days" on Hornfans. I don't know, I just know the enjoyment is being dashed out of coming here to hash out our disagreements. I know Horn123. BooF'inHoo, right?
