Per sources, The #1 defensive end prospect out of Arizona, Devon Kennard, is going to be in for the Spring Game on March 29, provided no other mishaps from then until now. Get ready. This guy is the nastiest defensive end prospect to come in in yeas, and he's looking strongly at TEXAS!!!! His brother, who is his position coach at his high school is close with Blaine Irby and apparently they have booked their trip to come into Austin!! Expect big news one way or the other in the next few weeks!! One way or the other, we'll know where he stands with Texas, and knowing Mack Brown, and what usually happens with recruits who come to Austin, you gotta feel good about this one- this i the shot we all wanted!!! Anyway, stay tuned, cause this guy is legit!

Most impressive film I've seen from the 09 class. Guy is a beast. If we could get him, McFarland, and Okafor the DL will be awesome for a few years.
 
He is the son of Derek Kennard who played at the University of Nevada and 10 years in the NFL. Derek Kennard Jr. also played at Nevada and took a shot at playing in the CFL. I believe that Jr. may be an assistant coach at Devon's high school.
 
Great to hear that he is coming in. i have not seen video but i like what i hear. Hopefully Muschamp and the D coaches can work their magic. Helps with the connection to Irby. Kennard and Okafor as future DEs would be ok.
 
It would be great to get him! I would also like to get a couple of good defensive tackles. Like others I worry that teams will go up the middle and five yard us to death. I would also like to get a FB for short yardage situations.

This guy is an absolutely crazy mofo. He could very well end up being the #1 player in the country.

Racked up something like 24.5 sacks his junior season.

Definitely the most dominating HS film i've seen. At least on defense, that is. Offense was VY!
 
I've seen some of the film. The kid looks like he's got a jetpack on his back when he's rushing the QB. Huge pickup if UT gets him.
 
Derek Kennard and Nate Newton played together for several years on the Cowboys. Would be interested to know if they still talk. Obviously Nate's son Tre is a freshman RB on the team now.

Irby's brother is the strongest connection.
 
2 connections to this guy make me happy. Hope we can wow his world when he comes in for a visit.

Someone going to the spring game make a poster for him.......hopefully the results will be better than last time i remember someone doing that.

He is a game/season/program changer at DE.
 
It would be really nice to start signing that one or two great out-of-state stars that we always hope will be the icing on the recruiting class cake each year. Hope Devon has a great visit and strongly considers UT.

yeah, I mean signing day isn't for another 11 months or so

but we are very confident Kennard will choose SC. He's already been out here a few times on his own dime to hang with the players

USC will easily have the best class in the nation for '09, maybe the best class ever (in terms of stars and top 100 players, whatever that's worth) but unless Pete hires a real offensive coordinator again and stop micromanaging, it won't matter. SC will continue to be a monumental waste of talent.

you guys have no idea how poor USC's coaching staff is. Maybe UT's similar. There once was a time where SC's staff was so far ahead of everyone else (2002-2004) they were destined to have a real dynasty in college football. Then Pete threw Chow out because he was tired of hearing about "the Norm Chow offense" and because he wanted his jerk godson to be promoted. Then he replaced Ed Orgeron and other top notch assistants with a bunch of unqualified yes men who Pete could micromanage. His ego destroyed everything. Our OC was Kiffin who was a ******* joke and now it's Sarkisian and Pete has the choke collar wrapped tightly around his neck at all times. Pete's offensive input and lack of a real OC has ruined this program. All because of his ego and his arrogance that "it's not the Norm Chow offense, it's the USC offense" ya right. SC sure has looked good the past two seasons without Chow you idiot.

2005 was a failure, only this pathetic coaching staff would not win it all with that much talent. Hell that offense didn't even lead the nation in offense, you guys did. The team looked like crap most of the time until Leinart and Bush had to clean up the mess those two first time OC's made. The coaching in the Rose Bowl was deplorable.

2006 was a failure despite NC talent

2007 was the exact same season and another failure despite an easy schedule and NC talent....Stanford, nuff said.

look for the same type of season, sloppy play, squeak by bad Pac-10 teams, lose to one of them and lose to one decent team, 10-2 U yawn

i know usc didnt have the best coaching talent but i didnt realize it is as bad as you make it out to be.
the talent you have had and continue to have in southern cali is unreal, at least on paper.
 
Soviet go away and derail some other threads on other boards. Last time I saw you you were posting about how Bush taking money was just something that all teams do and that Vince was no different. I got a little tired of you then.

I guess it was poor coaching that had Bush try that lateral that cost USC a likely TD and the momentum in the game. FYI...it wasn't coaching that won that game for UT either. It was Vince. And a dynasty from 02-04? I remember one BCS championship in that span. And it was against an overrated OU team when perhaps Auburn should have been playing in that one. Similar to when OU lost to LSU and many had USC as the team that should have been in that game. See the connection. You can't ***** about 03 and call it a championship but not do the same for Auburn in 04. There was no USC dynasty.
 
Poor coaching in 2005? Didn't I witness a nearly-unstoppable USC offense, particularly in the second half of the Rose Bowl?
Didn't they score, what 34 points? Just about every play worked brilliantly, despite facing a defense which has sent more than 11 players on to the NFL.
How much better could that offense have performed? Some of you Southern Cal fans need to wake up and figure out you weren't playing Cal Tech in the Rose Bowl.
But back on topic, maybe some other schools will occasionally win a recruiting battle against USC for one of these star players. If he visits, we will have a shot at getting the committment.
 
i don't know why you people are ripping on soviet union. if you read kennard's interview after his sc visit, you know they are in the driver's seat. i give us about a 1% chance of landing him. hope to god we hit that lottery.
 
If you read the comments you will notice that it is quite obvious noone is "ripping" on Soviet Union for his Kennard comment.

But his comment that USC has a poor coaching staff while compiling one of the best records and recruiting years in college football is laughable. Couple that with the fact that he denigrates his team which Texas beat in the Rose Bowl...you know, the same USC team which ESPN crowned the best team in history...

Fact is most, if not all, teams would kill to have Carroll and his coaching staff.
