Devean George is a Tool

He just made himself persona non grata in the Dallas locker room, and the entire city of Dallas for that matter. IMHO, the Mavs will have to get this deal done or risk all kinds of locker room chaos.

Here's a humorous article on this fiasco:

There was an interview with Devean after the game last night that was posted on The Big Lead.

It sounds like his agent wanted to take time to think about the situation and could still be pushed through. Seems to me though that the agent needed to handle this better. He's coming off as a jackass and he's putting himself in a position where teams aren't going to want to sign his clients.

I hope the interview went something like this...

Reporter: Devean. How could someone that sucks as much as you have a no-trade clause? 0-11 from the field. Hell kid, at least DJ hits at least one shot a game. What are you thinking?

By locker room chaos I refer to the prospect of the Mavs having to keep George. For the past week, there's been all this hoopla about Kidd coming back and how their that much closer to a championship. On top of that, the Mavs, after telling Harris and Diop that they are cornerstones of the team, show them they're ready to ship them to Jersey in a New York minute. So, they pull the trigger, only to have George blow the whole deal up at the 11th hour. Its not like he didn't know what was in the works, but he waits until the last minute to pull the rip cord. In a moment of poetic justice, he lays a goose egg for all the world to see.

If the Mavs don't get this deal done, they are stuck with an increasingly unpopular George and an increasingly unhappy Harris and Diop. I don't see how a team with an existing question mark on its collective team psyche/ego (Finals loss v.s. Heat; playoff collapse v.s. Warriors) emerges in better mental shape if George stays.

yeah it's going to be weird when a bunch of people in the room know they aren't wanted there.

It makes perfect sense to me. Why have a no trade clause if you cannot use it when you get traded from a finals contender to a crappy team, and will possibly have to lose money in the end. That's why you want the no trade clause in the first place.

Thank God for Devean. Hopefully the Mavs will come to their senses. The Lakers gave away a bag of peanuts for Gasol while the Mavs want to give away a budding star for a has been. Unfuckingbelievable.

I would just like to know which idiot dropped on ball on talking to Devean George beforehand. How hard would it have been to walk up to George before the trade became public and ask "Hey Devean, we are trading you to NJ...you good with that?" Surely management was aware of the no trade clause, so I blame the Mavs front office for screwing this up. However, I hate the trade, so I hope it doesn't go through.

He will lose money if he gets traded. And I mean millions. I don't blame him for what he is doing. Stop hating because he didn't make you happy. Get money Devean, the haters would.

Stackhouse is the tool. Bragging that he'll be back in Dallas in 30 days... What an idiot. Might have come true if he'd kept his mouth shut.

In baseball there is a little thing called the 10/5 rule (10 yrs in the League, 5 with the same team = veto power on trades). And here is how teams get around this little rule . . .

As a Spurs fan, I would love to see this trade go through. I think it is horrible for the Mavs.

The Mavs point guard play is not what keeps them from winning a title. The fundamental problem with the Mavs is that they have no inside game to go with Nowitski and the rest of their jump shooters.

I wonder what the plan was going to be in the playoffs when Dampier gets into foul trouble early in the 2nd quarter of each game. No Diop to sub for him. Were they going to slide Nowitski to center? Absolutely horrible plan with all of the accomplished big men in the West.

The word "hater" should never be used again. Ever. Maybe it had its purpose at one point, but if we're using it in conjunction with people getting angry at Devean George for torpedoing a Jason Kidd trade - well, it's time to retire that word.

I'll tell you what ... Devean George should be persona non grata IN SAN ANTONIO.

I guarantee you the Spurs were loving this deal. Harris always kills them. Kills them. Especially in transition.

Jason Kidd did not scare them in the least. He might have owned Parker in 2003, but that was five years ago. A healthy Parker would obliterate Jason Kidd in a seven-game series. Kidd would have to retire afterward, it would be so bad.

Horn9497,

Yes he will lose money. And he might not get as much now, but he won't get the MINIMUM either. Which is what would have happened next season(and he knows this because he isn't good, but neither is Snow and he gets about 4 million a year). And he would lose millions. Get money Devean.

It was proven long ago that you need one or both to win titles. The Mavs have neither posts nor good point guard play. So the trade would be irrelavent as they wouldn't get either.

Spurs fans. This aint about your team. You win how you win. The Lakers won differently. Detroit won differently. Chicago won differently. You sound like the NFL commentators who say defense wins championships. It does sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't. Having the best team and being clutch wins championships. Why you guys haven't seen this I dunno. Stop looking for individual reasons. You play the best team ball on both ends. You're gonna win. The Mavs do neither and should have attempted a Kobe trade early in the season.

The issue are the "Bird Rights." Not sure what all of that means expect he would be eligilbe for more bucks that would not count against the Mavs payroll tax.

Looks like he was screwed from the time the trade was first conceived as Dallas' inclusion of him basically told him forget the Bird Rights. He and his attorney balked thinking that they had leverage. They didn't so now the trade will go down, and George will not be asked back (much less offered a large contract.)
