Delle Donne

Wow!! Big news. I guess she decided she's happier not playing cuz there are more important things. Takes a lot guts to make that decision when everyone is expecting so much from you on the court.

Best wishes on whatever path you follow, EDD.

Her parents must be freaking out. Good-bye $140,000 UCONN scholarship. Good-bye $1.5M WNBA deal including endorsements. Good-bye $3M overseas basketball deal.

Wonder if they wish they had all that summer camp and traveling team money back. The kid throws away every women's basketball players dream. Unbelievable!!

Wow - that's why all of these parents do it? Kind of harsh. I thought parents wanted their kids to be happy. Maybe she was back then, but now she's not. Is it about them, or her?

How does this work if she decides she wants to play somewhere else in '09-'10??? Does UConn have to give her some sort of release, or was she ever totally committed to them?

Maybe she just felt like she made the wrong decision in choosing UConn!!??

As I understand it, her parents are very well off financially so the money is probably not an issue - yet, you are right, they have spent A LOT of money throughout the years on her basketball future.

It's very odd though, I think, the whole scenario. I won't make any judgements, except to say that I find the whole situation very very strange.

It may be a while before we know the entire story. I don't know how Geno would react, but based on observing his behavior over the years I can see him holding a grudge and not releasing her, but who knows. There is obviously so much more to this story that we know.

This must have been a huge struggle for this young lady. I was looking forward to seeing her talent on the court but hopefully she will find some peace of mind and maybe miss the game and want to return some day soon. I can only imagine the stress that these young players must feel when there are so many people putting pressure on them.

She's going to Delaware, but not to play basketball, at least not this year. She may play volleyball this year if Geno releases her from her letter of intent. Otherwise, she sits out a year before taking up any sport.

Did any of you all see this article posted in one of the comments on BabHorn's link??
The Link

She obviously has reasons for wanting to stay close to home. Good Luck Elena!!
