Defense is good!

I'm not down on Muschamp (and I don't think Rex Kramer is either) but I do think Will has a big job ahead of him. Think of it: every one of his safeties is either a redshirt frosh or a true frosh! Wow, that is amazing (BTW, how did it happen?).

Let's say that Muschamp is the best D coach in the world, just how much can he accomplish in the seconary this season? UT has sent several DBs to the NFL in recent years but how good were they when they were freshmen?

Ryan Palmer is our most experienced corner but he is always going to be short and have trouble defending a tall receiver. You can't coach tall. He is going to get picked on.

I'm not saying that UT will not have a good secondary before the year is over but, if it does, Muschamp deserves a big bonus.

On the matter of the closing minutes of the first half of games...

A good plan from now on is to get the ball somewhere close to the end of the first half and establish a ball control running & short-pass offense and run the clock down to 2 sec on each snap and just drain the clock while holding on to the ball.

Make it a point that after half the second quarter is over... say... the magic number is 7 minutes and under.... Horns keep the ball til halftime.

muschamp is an idiot. why aren't we "mugging" like we used to?

We will easily go into Dallas 4-0...things will be reviewed, adjustments will be made, and the secondary guys will learn from it. We'll see how much they've picked up in Dallas, then we can make a fair assessment of their growth. I am afraid that Bradford, Daniels, and Harrell will have a field day with our secondary. I hope I'm wrong.

i think rex is getting slammed inappropriately. he's saying it's early but the expectations he brought haven't necessarily been delivered. are our expecations too high? maybe but giving up 400+ yds to utep didn't make me confident we can stop ou.

that said, it's early. we need to be ready by the time we play at colorado. nobody is saying muschamp sucks, but that we have a long way to go.

We're making appropriate adjustments at halftime. The young DB's are gonna get burned every once in a while and that's expected. Poor tackling is my biggest complaint.

I like that we are more opportunistic of D and when needed to stop UTEP's momentum last night they did.

Seems like a typical game. There are positive things to take away and build on. There are negative things to address and correct. We're 2-0, #8 in both polls, and goin to have one hell of a pig roast next week!

the secondary is young and learning. Some posters expect 5 freshmen to play differently than the two games of field experience they have. The defense is fine and will be fine. How much complexity do you really want to give to 5 freshmen?
