I just got an ESPN push notification that Dave Magadan is leaving the Red Sox to become hitting coach with the Rangers. Goodbye, Scott Coolbaugh.

By all reports Magadan has an excellent rep as an instructor. I'm not sure Scott should bear the brunt for the hitting woes this past season, but Magadan looks like a good hire. Wonder who's next?

I spent all season trying to recover from Game 6. Now, I have to add the late season collapse to my recovery time. Unless there is a significant development on the Rangers front, I'm taking a vacation from baseball analysis until the winter meetings. That being said, count me as being cautiously optimistic about this hire.
